SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming Recognition of Olympic Peninsula
Senior Games on August 18 -25, 2013
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The City of Port Angeles has requested approval of the proclamation recognizing the Senior Games on
August 18 -25, 2013.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Proclamation re: Recognizing the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games on August 18 -25, 2013.

WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games was established in 2005 as a competitive sporting event for
everyone 50 years old and above; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the Senior Games is to promote health and fitness through participation, competition and
education for people 50 years of age and up; and,
WHEREAS, the Senior Games theme of 'Come for the Sport ... Stay for the Fun!' captures the spirit of our city and
our local games; and,
WHEREAS, in cooperation with individual community members, City of Port Angeles staff and the local business
community, the Senior Games offers 18 sports, 68 events, over three days in August; and,
WHEREAS, the Senior Games bring together senior athletes from Washington State and around the country
and Canada for competition, fellowship and fun; and,
WHEREAS, the Senior Games rely on our communities for participation; and,
WHEREAS, the Opening Ceremony for the 2013 Senior Games will be a celebration acknowledging our participants',
sportsmanship, friendship and camaraderie; and,
WHEREAS, Participants in the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games recognize, celebrate and value fitness as a lifestyle
and dedicate themselves to breaking down the stereotypes of aging; and,
WHEREAS, ENTITY pays tribute to the achievements and contributions of the athletes 50 years old and
above; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners do hereby proclaim the Week of
August 18 -25, 2013, as:
OLYMPIC PENINSULA SENIOR GAMES WEEK
Olympic Peninsula Senior Games in Port Angeles "COME FOR THE SPORT ... STAY FOR THE FUN!"
We urge all citizens to join us in this special observance.
