Reason for Appropriation/Extension
On December 20, 2012 the Court of Appeals, Division 11, remanded a double homicide case to Superior Court for retrial which '..
was originally set to begin May 20, 2013. Between them both attorneys handle all of the felony caseload, but, due to the
severity and complexity of the homicide case both Prosecutor Rosekrans and DPA Ashcraft needed to work exclusively on the
homicide. Therefore, with approval from the BOCC, a Special DPA was brought in for an estimated 6 weeks to handle all of '..
the felony cases to free up Rosekrans and Ashcraft to work on the homicide during that time. However, when the trial was '..
'.reset to July 8, 2013 the Special Deputy was kept on while work continued on the homicide. Once the trial was well underway a''..
furor unexpectedly came forward as a possible witness for the State resulting in a mistrial being called. The Special Deputy was
released at that time. The cost of the Special Deputy was $32,889.37 in salary and benefits.
