SUBJECT: Final County Response on Required and Recommended SMP Changes; Final Adoption
Dear Director Bellon,
After years of hard work and collaboration with community stakeholders, interested public, and Department
staff we are pleased to submit this final response accepting the required and recommended changes your
predecessor included in his January 26, 2011 letter conditionally approving our locally approved Shoreline
Master Program (SMP).
We have worked with our staff to incorporate 60+ revisions on many topics, including finfish aquaculture, to
prepare our updated SMP in accordance with the guidance and informal approval by your staff. Attached
herein, please find:
Formal Jefferson County Response to Ecology on Changes to the Locally Approved Shoreline Master
Program – FINAL (November 2013)
Jefferson County Ordinance # ____-________-13: In the Matter of Creating an Updated Shoreline
Master Program, to Repeal and Replace Chapter 18.25, JCC, Shoreline Master Program.
This updated Shoreline Master Program is supported by scientific and technical documents previously
submitted to Ecology and locally adopted by Resolution #________-13, including the Final Shoreline Inventory
& Characterization Report, the Final Shoreline Restoration Plan, and the Cumulative Impacts Analysis.
On December _____, 2013 this body took legislative action to adopt a comprehensively updated SMP via local
ordinance, in compliance with the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act (RCW 90.58) and the SMP
Guidelines (WAC 173-26). We look forward to receiving notification of your final approval and t o having our
new SMP in effect for improved protection, use, development, and restoration of our local lakes, streams, and
marine waters: Let’s Do More With Our Shores!
