HomeMy WebLinkAbout042814_ra01Consent Agenda JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Philip Morley, County Administrator FROM: Julie Shannon, Executive Secretary I DATE: April 28, 2014 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: May 2014 as National Bike Month; Participating with communities across the Nation promoting activities with bicycles STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Kees Kolff, President, Jefferson County ReCyclery has requested approval of the Proclamation proclaiming May 2014 as National Bike Month; Participating with communities across the Nation promoting activities with bicycles RECOMMENDATION: Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming May 2014 as National Bike Month; Participating with communities across the Nation promoting activities with bicycles Date PROCLAMATION WHEREA.$Biking is not only the most edicient way to novel, but also builds connections between neighbors and promotes individual health and community sustainability, and WHEREAS There is a nation -wide epidemic of obesity in children and adults, in pan due to inactivity, and WHEREAS', The City/County Climate Action Plan calls for encouraging use of bicycles, and WHEREAS May is National Bike Month with communities across the nation promoting activities with bicycles, and WHEREAS, May 7th is National Bike to School Day and May 16th is National Bike to Work Day, NOW, THEREFORE Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim the Month of May 2014, as Bike Month in recognition of the importance of biking in our community, and call upon all citizens to bike whenever they can in the month of May, especially to school on May 7th and to work on May 16th, and to practice walking and other forms of non- motorized active transportation as well to promote personal health and community sustainabiliry.
