Agenda Request
To: Board of Commissioners
Philip Morley, County Administrator
From: Frank Gifford, Central Services Director
Agenda Date: August 4, 2014
Subject: Midsize Hybrid Sedans, Bid Opening
Statement of Issue:
Opening of bids for the supply of midsize hybrid sedans as needed from time to time
over five years for various County departments.
Analysis /Strategic Goals /Pros 8: Cons:
A request for bids for a five -year contract for a single model of midsize hybrid sedan
to provide an efficient option for transportation was issued, and bids are due to be
opened today.
Fiscal Impact /Cost Benefit Analysis:
Midsize hybrid sedans are nearly as efficient and ranked very low in overall lifecycle
cost out of a variety of suitable vehicles in Fleet Services' analysis for County
departments that average 12,000 miles per year. This class of vehicle is expected to
fill needs for which compact cars are too small, such as the carrying of several
passengers or larger equipment; it will be proposed in lieu of larger vehicles where
practical. Actual purchases off the resultant contract will be dependent upon
requirements due to existing vehicles reaching their economic end of life.
Recommendation:
Direct the opening of bids at 10:30am and that Fleet Services evaluate bids and
return at a later date with a recommendation of award.
