SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming Recognition of Olympic Peninsula
Senior Games for the week of August 18 -24, 2014
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Mr. Gerald Rettela of Olympic Peninsula Senior Games has requested approval of the proclamation
recognizing the Senior Games on August 22 -24, 2014.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Proclamation re: Recognizing the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games on August 22 -24,
2014.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, since 2005 the City of Port Angeles Senior Center, in cooperation with many local governments and businesses, has
offered the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games; and,
WHEREAS, over the last nine years, more than 3400 athletes of all abilities have taken part in our local Senior Games; and,
WHEREAS, Olympic Peninsula Senior Games would not be possible without the continued engagement of our local municipalities,
their professional staff, the local businesses and agency support, the Senior Games Steering Committee and the over 100 hard working
volunteers each year; and,
WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games is now celebrating its tenth (10) year with the support of the City of Port Angeles
Parks and Recreation Department; and,
WHEREAS, we expect 575 Athletes and Participants, accompanied by their friends and family to enjoy our local hospitality; and,
WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games bring together senior athletes from Washington State and the Country and Canada
for completion, fellowship and fun, adding to their quality of life and that of our community; and,
WHEREAS, the 2014 Olympic Peninsula Senior Games offer 16 sports, 74 events, over three days in August; and,
WHEREAS, the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games has sports venues in the City of Port Angeles, the City of Sequim, Clallam County,
Port Angeles School District, Olympic Christian School, the YMCA, William Shore Memorial Pool, and Laurel Lanes, enjoying the spirit
of cooperation in sponsoring and carrying out our local Senior Games; and,
WHEREAS, Participants in the Olympic Peninsula Senior Games value a healthy lifestyle through personal fitness, and dedicate
themselves to breaking down the stereotypes of aging; and,
WHEREAS, Jefferson County acknowledges and honors to the contributions of the athletes 50 years old and
Above for their achievements and inspiration during this three day event; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners do hereby proclaim the Week of
August 18 -24, 2014, as:
OLYMPIC PENINSULA SENIOR GAMES WEEK
Olympic Peninsula Senior Games in Port Angeles "COME FOR THE SPORT ...STAY FOR THE FUN!'
We urge all citizens to join us in this special observance.
