HomeMy WebLinkAboutMarch 27 Staff ReportJefferson County WA March 27, 2014 SWAC Solid Waste Staff Report  Tonnage/Revenue Solid waste tonnage through February is matching that for 2013. Transactions were up in January, down in February, as anticipated with the fee increase on February 1st. Staff will be tracking this information month to month.  2014 Solid Waste Budget A link to the approved 2014 solid waste budget is available online in the SWAC Notebook.  Staffing Update Chris Broderson, our new Operator 3 at the Transfer Station, started work on February 6th. Dave Kaldahl transferred to Facilities.  Coordinated Prevention Grant – Offset Cycle 2013 – 2015 The Application for an offset cycle grant has been submitted to Ecology to fund HHW collection events. Projects are funded on a competitive basis rather than by County distribution. Grant awards will be made by June 30th.  Operations Staff is working on: 1. Upgrading the computer system and credit card processing service at the Transfer Station. 2. A contract for repair work on the inbound scale at the Transfer Station. 3. Re-bidding or renewing several small service contracts. 4. Revisions to the Solid Waste website to make it easier for the public to obtain information about services. 5. Coordinating with Skookum to facilitate baler replacement this year; stormwater drainage improvements at the baler building will be coordinated with that work. 6. Updating solid waste and MRW Operations & Maintenance Plans. 7. Revision process and revisions to the 2008 SWMP.  Capital Projects - 2014 Budgeted projects include: 1. The Yard Truck (trailer jockey) bid for in 2013 will be delivered in April. 2. A water line will be extended to the Quilcene dropbox site as part of the new County Shop construction project – scheduled to start in late Spring early summer. 3. Planning for upgrades to oil/antifreeze collection sites. 4. Major part replacement for the Grizzly compactor at the transfer station.  SWAC Membership We still have an open position for a District 3 member.
