HomeMy WebLinkAboutMay 22 Staff ReportJefferson County WA May 22, 2014 SWAC Solid Waste Staff Report  Tonnage/Revenue Solid waste tonnage through April is up slightly (0.35%) compared to the same period in 2013; revenue is higher due to the disposal fee increase (23%). We expect some customer adjustments as a result of the new fee schedule and Staff will be tracking this closely month to month. Recycling and yard waste quantities are summarized in the SWAC Report.  Coordinated Prevention Grant – Offset Cycle 2013 – 2015 The Application for an offset cycle grant has been submitted to Ecology to fund two HHW collection events (Quilcene and Port Ludlow). Projects are funded on a competitive basis rather than by County distribution. Grant awards will be made by June 30th.  Contracts Contracts renewed recently include: 1. Autofluids recycling with ThermoFluids Inc. 2. Security Alarm Services for Transfer Station and Quilcene sites with Guardian Security 3. Groundwater Quality Analysis (closed landfill) with Aspect Consulting, LLC 4. Cash Security Service with Loomis Armored US, LLC  Operations The new trailer jockey has been delivered to the Transfer Station. New “metal recycling” bins for the Transfer Station and the MRW have been delivered. Closed landfill quarterly groundwater sampling and testing was completed in April. Staff is also working on: 1. Upgrading the credit card verification/processing service at the Transfer Station. 2. A contract for repair work on the inbound scale at the Transfer Station. 3. A contract update for the landfill gas flare annual maintenance. 4. Revisions to the Solid Waste website to make it more user friendly. 5. Updating Solid Waste and MRW Operations & Maintenance Plans. 6. Recommendations for revisions to the 2008 SWMP.  Capital Projects - 2014 Current projects include: 1. A potable water line extension to the Quilcene dropbox site as part of the County Shop construction project – construction has begun. 2. Replacement of the Grizzly head will be scheduled (part is purchased and on site). 3. Planning for upgrades to oil/antifreeze collection sites.  SWAC Membership We have openings for a member from District #1 and #3.
