The evaluation was carried out to determine whether the topless railing system complied with the requirements of the 2009 International Residential Code. Summary of the System The topless glass railing system consists of extruded aluminum posts(6005-T5 alloy)in different heights for either a surface mounted or fascia mounted application. • surface mounted applications-the finished post height for a 36"tall railing is 34"and 40"for a 42"tall railing. • fascia mounted applications-the finished post height for a 36"tall railing is 42"and 48"for a 42"tall railing. The glass panels can be either 10mm(3/8')or 12mm(1/2")thick. The glass is required to be fully tempered and can be either monolithic(single thickness)or laminated. The railing post connection to the structure can be Surface Mounted where the base plate is attached on top of the horizontal deck or as a Fascia mount with the base plate attached on the vertical side of the deck. Surface mounted System: The base plate is a 6061-T6 aluminum plate. The post is mechanically fastened to the base plate with(3)#14 x 2 3/4"Reamer TEK tapping screws. Fascia mounted System: The base plate is extruded aluminum 6061-T6 shape. The post slides over the base plate and load is transferred through bearing. The post is mechanically fastened to each base plate with(2)#10 x 3/4" TEK tapping screws per base plate. Account shall be taken of variations in ground surface roughness that arises from natural topography and vegetation as well as from constructed features. For a site where multiple detached one-and two- family dwellings, townhouses or other structures are to be constructed as part of a subdivision'master-planned community,or otherwise designated as a developed area by the authority having jurisdiction, the exposure category for an individual structure shall be based upon the site conditions that will exist at the time when all adjacent structures on the site have been constructed, provided their construction is expected to begin within one year of the start of construction for the structure for which the exposure category is determined. For any given wind direction, the exposure in which a specific building or other structure is sited shall be assessed as being one of the following categories: Exposure B: Urban and suburban areas, wooded areas,or other terrain with numerous closely spaced obstructions having the size of single-family dwellings or larger.Exposure B shall be assumed unless the site meets the definition of another type exposure. Exposure C: Open terrain with scattered obstructions, including surface undulations or other irregularities, having heights generally less than 30 feet(9144 mm)extending more than 1,500 feet(457m)from the building site in any quadrant. This exposure shall also apply to any building located within Exposure B type terrain where the building is directly adjacent to open areas of Exposure C type terrain in any quadrant for a distance of more than 600 feet(183 m). This category includes flat open country, grasslands and shorelines in hurricane prone regions. Exposure D: Flat, unobstructed areas exposed to wind flowing over open water(excluding shorelines in hurricane prone regions)for a distance of at least 1 mile(1.61 km). Shorelines in Exposure D include inland waterways, the Great Lakes, and coastal areas of California,Oregon,Washington and Alaska. This exposure shall apply only to those buildings and other structures exposed to the wind coming from over the water. Exposure D extends inland from the shoreline a distance of 1500 feet(457 m)or 10 times the height of the building or structure, whichever is greater Armour Unsderfer Engineering,13456 SE 27th PI., Ste. 200, Bellevue, WA 98005(425)614-0949 Project: Innovative Topless Glass Rail Sys system Pg No.9 Address:Anywhere,WA Date:3/31/201I Client: Innovative Aluminum Systems Inc Job No: 11046 a Conclusion: The Innovative Aluminum Systems Inc. Topless Glass Railing Systems identified in this test report have complied with the requirements specified in 2009 International Residential Code. The attachment of the base plate to the deck/structure is not in scope of these calculations. It is the installer's responsibility to confirm the capacity of the connection of the base plate to the structure/deck. gipitp.0610, Reported b Reported by: Bill Armour, SE, SECB Shalini David PE(CA) 4Armour Unsderfer Engineering,13456 SE 27th PI., Ste. 200, Bellevue, WA 98005 (425)614-0949 Project: Innovative Topless Glass Rail Sys system Pg No.10 Address:Anywhere,WA Date:3/31/2011 Client: Innovative Aluminum Systems Inc Job No: 11046 , 0E Y c = 2E E \k ( m */ m o /922> k MD/r o § • 1N.- ■ ■ ■ ■ \$co 1# • m)Ti- o •• ce 9mGz ° §—ate d k §2cE § cLRRw u O § LU ..
