HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 2015 Staff ReportJefferson County WA January, 2015 SWAC Solid Waste Staff Report Production Overall solid waste tonnage collected in 2014 showed no increase over 2013 and the total weight brought in from minimum fee customers was down 8.5%. It is possible that customers may be responding to the increased fees by either recycling more or possibly using commercial collection service. Solid waste (garbage) transactions were also down 7%. We will continue to track this information. Recycling quantity reported through November 2014 is unchanged from 2013. Glass shipment is still behind and the year-end may show a slight up-tick. The solid waste annual fee increase previously approved by Ordinance was implemented January 2nd, 2015: Per ton fee at the Transfer Station Unit fees at Quilcene drop box No change in the $10 minimum fee. Coordinated Prevention Grant – Offset Cycle 2013 – 2015 We had a very successful HHW collection event in Quilcene on October 18th; a second collection event will be in Port Ludlow in April, 2015. Opportunity will again be taken to solicit for SWAC members. Planning Processing a Consultant Contract to assist with the Solid Waste Management Plan revision Solid Waste and MRW Operations & Maintenance Plans are being updated Capital Projects - 2014 New trailer jockey purchase, and in service in April Replacement of the main arm and grapple on the Grizzly knuckleboom compactor Rebuild the inbound weigh-scale supports, load cells and wiring Exterior computer cabinet at weigh-scales Install potable water line at Quilcene dropbox (as part of the new Roads Shop Facility Old trailer jockey and recycle sort conveyor were surplused and sold at auction in August Planned Capital Projects - 2015 Install environmental center at Transfer Station (for oil/antifreeze et al); relocate existing oil tank to Quilcene Rebuild outbound weigh-scale supports, load cells and wiring Replace the two Quilcene waste compactors Transfer station stormwater improvement; Recycle building improvements MRW steel structure re-coat SWAC Membership We still have openings for Committee members representing Districts 2 and 3.
