SWAC Solid Waste Staff Report
Production
Overall solid waste tonnage collected in 2014 showed no increase over 2013 and the total weight brought in
from minimum fee customers was down 8.5%. It is possible that customers may be responding to the increased fees by either recycling more or possibly using commercial collection service.
Solid waste (garbage) transactions were also down 7%. We will continue to track this information.
Recycling quantity reported through November 2014 is unchanged from 2013. Glass shipment
is still behind and the year-end may show a slight up-tick.
The solid waste annual fee increase previously approved by Ordinance was implemented January 2nd, 2015:
Per ton fee at the
Transfer Station
Unit fees at Quilcene drop box
No change in the $10 minimum fee.
Coordinated Prevention Grant – Offset Cycle 2013 – 2015
We had a very successful HHW collection event
in Quilcene on October 18th; a second collection event will be in Port Ludlow in April, 2015. Opportunity will again be taken to solicit for SWAC members.
