SUBJECT: Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee District 3 and
Open Interest Temporary Re- appointments
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Staff requests BoCC approval of temporary re- appointments to two seats on the 13- member Conservation
Futures Citizen Oversight Committee that have recently, or will soon, expire: Richard Jahnke
representing open interest seat "Coastal Areas" on March 28, 2015 and JD Gallant representing District 3
on April 25. Both members indicate that they would like to continue serving additional 4 -year terms. Staff
recommends that both of the members be reappointed for limited terms until the required open
recruitment process is fulfilled. A vacancy notice is printed in April 15, 2015 edition of the The Leader.
ANALYSIS /STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S:
The deadline for responding to the vacancy notice is April 29, 2015, the same day that the next
conservation futures meeting is scheduled. If any new applicants come forward, staff and committee
representatives will interview the applicants and forward the names of those most qualified for final
selection by the Board. This process will take several weeks or more. In the meantime, the Conservation
Futures Committee will be under - represented. Staff proposes that Mr. Jahnke and Mr. Gallant be
reappointed to limited terms until June 30, 2015 until these two people, or other members of the public,
are duly appointed.
FISCAL IMPACT /COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact to the County's General Fund for re- appointing members to serve on the
Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee. Minor costs to advertise the positions are paid for by
the Conservation Futures Fund.

RECOMMENDATION:
Reappoint Richard Jahnke and JD Gallant on the Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee to
serve until June 30, 2015 or until new member(s) are duly appointed.
