The above-referenced proposal was reviewed relative to the below noted jurisdiction/sources: • International Fire Code,2009 Edition,Chapter 9, Section 903.3.5 "Water Supplies" • Washington Administrative Code Chapter 246-290-490 • American Water Works Association Cross Connection Control Manual • Jefferson County Coordinated Water System Plan • NFPA 13D,2013 Edtion • International Plumbing Code,2009 Edition The following constitutes this plan reviewer's findings and determinations based upon the plans of record submitted. Findings&Determinations: 1. Occupancy Class: The proposal was reviewed a as a Group R, Division 3 occupancy with an assumed Type V-B construction classification. 2. An automatic fire suppression system (sprinklers) is a voluntary installation of the proponent proposing a residential fire sprinkler system from a public water supply—Jefferson County Public Utility District No. 1. 3. Valves are found to not be designed to be installed between the domestic water riser control valve and the sprinklers system except when an approved indicating valve supervised in the "open" position, in accordance with International Fire Code Section 903.4. 5. Any water system provided with a check valve, backflow prevention, or pressure-regulating device which does not have a bypass feature at its source, shall be provided with an approved, listed, adequately sized pressure relief valve or means to control expansion as required by the International Plumbing Code. 6. Back-flow prevention for the automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be consistent with Washington Administrative Code Chapter 246-290-490. 7. The double check-valve or other assemblies shall receive routine confidence test and recordation along with the sprinkler system consistent with State health standards and the American Water Works Association Cross Connection Control Manual recommendations, with a copy of the report provided to the water system purveyor when applicable,and maintained by the owners. $. The automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be designed, and can be certified by the licensed technician(W.A.C. 212-80). 9. Sprinkler supervision and alarm bell design is found to be consistent with I.F.C. Section 903.4. 10. A complete set of as-built drawings of the system shall be maintained by the building owner. 11. All above-ground piping and appurtenances shall be in spaces where a minimum 40-degree ambient temperature is maintained at all times. 12. The installer shall conduct all required N.F.P.A. 13D acceptance testing prior to project final approval by Jefferson County. The installer shall contact Jefferson County to ascertain current County inspection requirements. Any other applicable or relevant sections of the noted Codes not covered herein shall nonetheless apply to this proposal, and, the noted Code sections shall take precedence over the requirements herein should there be any variance between the two. The most significant summarized outcome of this decision is as follows. Effective August 31st, 2011, Listed Residential Sprinklers will not require special sloped Listings, additional flow, or calculation of additional sprinklers for sloped ceilings of up to 8/12 in NFPA 13D residential applications under the following circumstances: • A smooth, flat sloped ceiling with no beams up to a maximum slope of 8 in 12. The highest portion of the ceiling shall not be more than 24 ft. (7.3 m) above the floor. The highest sprinkler in the sloped portion of the ceiling shall be above all openings from the compartment containing the sloped ceiling into any communicating spaces. • A sloped ceiling with beams up to 14 in. (4.3 m) deep with pendent sprinklers under the beams. The compartment containing the sloped, beamed ceilings shall be a maximum of 600 ft2 (56 m2) in area. The slope of the ceiling shall be between 2 in 12 and 8 in 12. The highest portion of the ceiling shall not be more than 24 ft. (7.3 m) above the floor.
