NW NE W E 450 Spruce Drive Forks,Washington 98331 SW SE Phone(360)374-5720 S Fax(360) 374-9106 Email dksurveying @centurytel.net March 5, 2010 Hoh Rainforest Enterprises 201 Trout Avenue Forks,WA 98331 Gentlemen: On the 23`d of November, 2009, at the request of Gary Peterson I visited property described under Jefferson County real parcel number 711-292-004 on the Upper Hoh Road for purposes of determining potential floodplain lines and establishing three benchmarks for proposed future construction on this parcel. The property is also described as the East 480 feet of the West 1280 feet of the North 1074 feet of the Southeast Quarter Northwest Quarter of Section 29, Township 27 North, Range 11 West,W.M.,Jefferson County,Washington. Elevations were derived from benchmark "Ironman", ID number 5796, established by the Washington State Department of Transportation 11/07/2002 near the entrance to the Jefferson County Maintenance Shop#5632 on the Upper Hoh Road. The established elevation on this mark is 85.401 meters or 280.186 feet,NAVD 88. William Robinson, a current Jefferson County road maintenance employee and son of long time resident in the area and former road maintenance employee,Norm Robinson, pointed out the level of the highest flood observed at the shop. This point was deemed to be 18 inches above a point on the asphalt at the entrance to the shop area. I generated an elevation of 282.33 feet for the observed highest flood at this site. The proposed future construction site for Hoh Rainforest Enterprises lies about 1100 feet east of this area and at a higher elevation than the observed highest flood at the shop. I established a benchmark using a benchtie with a nail driven into a 24" diameter maple tree on the north side of the Upper Hoh Road and on the east side of a gravel driveway accessing the Hoh Rainforest Enterprises property. The elevation of the benchtie (BM#1) for this 1 project is 288.21 feet. This point is 5.88 feet above the flood elevation observed at the shop. A second benchmark was established on the top, northeast corner of a PUD box (BM#2) approximately 479 feet north of the Upper Hoh Road intersection with the gravel access driveway into the property. The elevation of this benchmark is 300.41 feet. A third benchmark(BM#3)was established on the sotheast corner of a PUD box which is set flush with the ground at the easterly end of a skid road near the easterly property line of the Hoh Rainforest Enterprises propety. This box is identified as"294582" and falls about 374 feet east of BM#2. The elevation at this point is 318.18 feet. An elevation shot was also taken at the edge of the bench lying southerly of BM#3. The point fell about 143 feet south of the skid trail and the elevation established was 302.88 feet with another elevation taken below the bench(an additional 9 feet south but not at the base of the bench) of 298.86 feet. There is a second bench lying northerly of BM #2 and BM #3 which has an existing mobile home established on it but this area is not included in the proposed project. Based on highest observed flood episodes by Jefferson County employees and local property owners I would verify that the proposed project site for Hoh Rainforest Enterprises falls well outside any observed flood for this area.
