Subject: Planning Commission District 1 re- appointment
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
District 1 of the Jefferson County Planning Commission has a vacant positon that was most
recently held by Mr. Kevin Coker.
ANALYSIS
The Board of County Commissioners (Board) has established a "Planning Agency" comprised of the
Department of Community Development (DCD) and the Planning Commission. Pursuant to the
originating action (Resolution #54 -97), the Commission is to assist DCD in carrying out its duties by
engaging the public in the preparation and review of comprehensive plans and development
regulations. Recommendations made by the Planning Commission are forwarded to the Board for the
Board's final action.
A position in District 1 of the Jefferson County Planning Commission expired March 17, 2015.
This position was advertised in the newspaper of record, PT Leader, on March 18, 2015 and again on
May 13, 2015, and was also posted on the Jefferson County website from March until May 2015. Mr.
Coker has applied for reappointment for this position.
As a professional building designer, Mr. Coker is familiar with the planning and permitting process. He
has successfully served as a Planning Commission member and chair during his previous term. His
experience would be valuable to retain on the Planning Commission.
