SUBJECT: Request to Appoint Ed Ansorg to the North Pacific Coast Marine
Resources Committee (NPC MRC)
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The membership of the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee and staff recommend that the
County Commissioners appoint Ed Ansorg to serve a full, 2 -year term on the North Pacific Coast Marine
Resources Committee as a Citizen Representative.
ANALYSIS /STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S:
A vacancy on the NPC MRC was advertised in the The Leader on April 1, 2015. Mr. Ansorg expressed
interest by the April 15 deadline. The membership of the NPC MRC voted to recommend his appointment
at their regular meeting on April 21".
Mr. Ansorg is on the faculty for Peninsula College and teaches GED classes and vocational college courses
at Olympic Correctional Center. He has lived in west Jefferson County for 15 years. Mr. Ansorg has great
interest in environmental issues, renewable energy systems and sustainable agriculture. He is also a long-
time volunteer with Streamkeepers and the University of Washington's Coastal Observation and Seabird
Survey Team (COASST) and looks forward to addressing issues such as ocean acidification, balancing
recreation with wildlife and economic needs, and plastic marine debris through participation in the NPC
MRC.
Mr. Ansorg has tremendous on -the -ground knowledge of the region and is well- versed in coastal issues. His
strong ties to the community and deep concern for natural resources will make him a real asset to the NPC
MRC and its work.
FISCAL IMPACT /COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
There's no fiscal impact to the county's General Fund for appointing Mr. Ansorg to serve on the NPC
MRC.

RECOMMENDATION:
Appoint Mr. Ansorg to serve a new 2 -year term on the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee as
a Citizen Representative.
