Subject: Request for Solid Waste Advisory Committee Appointments
Statement of Issue:
Public Works recently advertised for citizen positions to the Solid Waste Advisory
Committee (SWAC). Ms. Jean Ball has applied for the District 3 citizen representative
position on the SWAC. Alysa Russell has expressed interest in representing Skookum
Contract Services as a primary voting member. Ms. Russell had served as an alternate
for a term that expired in August, 2015.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's and Con's:
Public Works after reviewing the attached application letter, met with Ms. Ball to
provide background of the Committee, the Committee's function and to further
understanding of Ms. Ball's interest in solid waste. Public Works maintains a working
relationship with Ms. Russell in her capacity as Site Manager with Skookum Contract
Services and as a former committee alternate member. At the SWAC October 22"d,
2015 meeting by unanimous decision the SWAC has directed Public Works staff to
request that the Board of County Commissioners consider the appointment of Ms. Jean
Ball and Ms. Russell to the SWAC for respective two year terms representing the
District 3 citizen position and Skookum Contract Services. Public Works is in
agreement with SWAC's recommendation of these appointments.
