Agenda Date: January 4, 2016
Subject: Resolution for Temporary Closure of
Undie Road, MP 1.0, County Road No. 150009
Statement of Issue:
An emergency repair requires the temporary closure of Undie Road.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's:
Slide activity has severely damaged the roadway and culvert at Undie Road approx. MP 1.1.
The culvert is separating at a joint and causing a reoccurring sinkhole in the roadway which
requires county road maintenance personnel to monitor and perform daily maintenance to
keep it from becoming a hazard to motorists. In a continued effort to keep the road open,
Public Works will remove the existing culvert and replace it with a continuous, solid steel
pipe which will not separate or deform under the landslide forces. The installation will
require temporary closure of the road. There are 16 private parcels beyond the culvert and no
alternative access. The road will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 8:00 am,
January 4, 2016 until approximately 5:00 pm, January 5, 2016 but will reopen sooner if work
is completed. Pedestrian access will be provided through the site. Advanced notification
signs were installed 5 days in advance.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
The passing of a Resolution for Temporary Road Closure does not in itself require spending of
funds above the costs included in the project.
Recommendation:
The Board is requested to execute the attached Resolution for Temporary Road Closure and
return a copy to Public Works for further processing.
