Subject: Request for Solid Waste Advisory Committee Appointment
Statement of Issue:
Public Works has received the attached letter of interest for appointment to the Solid
Waste Advisory Committee from Chris Giraldes representing Waste Connections
companies that provide State -franchised and contracted collection of trash and
recyclables to residents and businesses in Jefferson County. This appointment
request reflects staff changes whereby SWAC Member Kent Kovalenko is no longer
employed by nor a representative of the local Waste Connections companies.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's and Con's:
Local Waste Connections companies (Murrey's Olympic Disposal and DM Disposal)
serve functions that are critical to the collection and routing of trash and recyclables
from Jefferson County to sanitary disposal and secondary markets. It is important that
these companies remain informed of and have the ability to provide input regarding
local solid waste program status, issues, and prospective program changes. The Solid
Waste Manager has provided an introduction to SWAC activities and responsibilities to
both of the potential appointees.

Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
Local SWAC is mandated by RCW 70.95.165(3) and costs associated with SWAC
activities, which are identified in the 2016 Solid Waste Budget
Recommendation:
Appointment of Chris Giraldes to represent local Waste Connections companies.
