Schedule a Public Hearing to Adopt the Jefferson County 2016
Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP)
Statement of Issue:
Schedule a Public Hearing to adopt the Final Draft of the SWMP as a Jefferson County
planning document and approve its' implementation.
The Final Draft of the 2016 SWMP, developed in cooperation with the Solid Waste
Advisory Committee and the City of Port Townsend, has been completed. This Final
Draft incorporates all public review comments from an April 27th, 2016 public meeting
and has received a SEPA Determination of Non -Significance. The Final Draft of the
2016 SWMP must now be adopted as a countywide planning document and approved
for implementation.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pros Ft Cons:
The Board is required to set the hearing date and sign the legal notice to enable it to
be published twice prior to the hearing.
Fiscal Impact:
The cost for the hearing is minimal.
Recommendation:
Authorize the Chair to sign the hearing notice and return it to Public Works for further
processing. Public Works will submit the notice to The Leader in time for it to be
published on December 14th and 28th.

NOTICE OF HEARING TO ADOPT THE JEFFERSON COUNTY SOLID WASTE
MANAGEMENT PLAN
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 the Jefferson County
Board of Commissioners is scheduled to accept comments and to adopt the Final Draft of
the 2016 Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) The hearing will be held at 10 15 AM
in the Commissioners' Chambers, County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson Street, Port
Townsend WA
This SWMP is a revision of the 2008 Solid Waste Management Plan, required by RCW
70 95 110 to be maintained in a current condition and revised as required This revised
Plan shows long-range needs for solid waste handling facilities and programs for the next
twenty years and projected cost impacts for the next six years The SWMP is a
coordinated plan that incorporates the solid waste management needs of the City of Port
Townsend, as required by RCW 70 95 80, and which was adopted separately by the City
Council, Resolution 16-053
Copies of the Final Draft Plan are available for review on the County Solid Waste web
site, County Courthouse, the County Public Works Dept, 623 Sheridan St , Port
Townsend, or can be obtained by calling 360-385-9160
Comments may be submitted in writing to Jefferson County Public Works prior to
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 or in person or in writing at the Hearing on Tuesday, January
3rd, 2017 10 15AM at the Commissioners' Chambers in the County Courthouse
