HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-10-05Board’s Official Business Highlights from Monday's Commissioner Meeting May 10, 2005 UPDATE ON COMMISSIONER SULLIVAN’S CONDITION: Commissioner David Sullivan had back surgery last Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. There were no complications and he is resting well. It has not been determined when he will be able to come home. COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR BRIEFING: John Fischbach reported on the following: •Sales tax revenue for April was up 32.87%. The majority of the sales tax is from an increase in building in the County. •The State has approved funding that will allow Jefferson County to update the Master Shoreline Program pending negotiation of budget and signing of an agreement with the Department of Ecology. The updated Shoreline Master Program will need to be adopted by the end of June, 2007. •Commissioner Rodgers is the alternate for Commissioner Sullivan on the Peninsula Development Association Board and the Economic Development Council and will be attending the meetings this week while Commissioner Sullivan is recuperating. •John Fischbach will have surgery on his knee on Thursday, May 12 and is expected to be out of the office for three to six weeks. Central Services Director Allen Sartin will be handling the County Administrator duties while he is away. PROCLAMATION: The Board approved a proclamation designating the week of May 15, 2005 as National Police Week. Sheriff Mike Brasfield stated that a remembrance ceremony will be held at the Sheriff’s Office. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comment was made: the people in the audience in the Commissioner’s Chambers appreciate the removal of the top railing from the Commissioners’ bench because it makes it much easier to see and hear the Board’s discussions. CONSENT AGENDA: All of the items on the Consent Agenda were approved. RESOLUTION: Updating the Working Capital Reserve Requirements for Each County Fund For Years 2005 and 2006 4 AGREEMENTS: 1) Amending Period of Performance and Budget Summary of Agreement for Traffic Safety Grant Funding with the State Traffic Safety Commission; 2) Purchase of Property for Inclusion in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor using Jefferson County Conservation Futures Funds with Kennith Carter, Shari Carter and Cathy White; 3) To Provide Training Services for Jefferson County Employees with Peninsula College, and; 4) Amendment to Agreement for Transfer of Interest for Donkey Creek Culvert Project with the State Department of Fish and Wildlife, Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation DEED OF RIGHT: Conservation of the Dosewallips Floodplain Acquisition Project with Mary Kay Swift, Gary Barney, and Jackob Johnson ADVISORY BOARD REAPPOINTMENT: John Burke, Representing Skookum Educational Services to serve a Two Year Term on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee ADVISORY BOARD RESIGNATION: Jeff Gallant from the Marine Resources Committee BID OPENING: Three bids were received for a new baler at the transfer station. This is a condition of the contract with Skookum Educational Services. The three bidders are: Recycle Systems, Solid Waste Systems, Inc., and GK Industrial Refuse Systems. Public Works staff will review the bids and make a recommendation to the Board. HEARING: On March 14, 2005, the Board approved an interim ordinance enacting a six month moratorium on adult businesses in the County. The process requires that a public hearing be held within 60 days of this action. No public comments were recieved for or against the interim ordinance. The Commissioners agreed to wait until Commissioner Sullivan returns to take action on this item.
