Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting September 20, 2005
Letter Concerning Dosewallips Road Washout
EIS: The Board edited then approved a letter to
the Olympic National Forest and the Olympic
National Park providing comments on the
Dosewallips Road Washout EIS. The County
supports the “Proposed Action” alternative as long
as it is “accomplished in such a manner so as to
minimize damage to, and restore damage of,salmon habitat.” The Board found the “No Action”
alternative unacceptable.
Parking Fees at State Parks: The Board
approved a resolution petitioning the Governor
and the Washington State Parks and RecreationCommission to end day use parking fees in all
State Parks.
Updated Emergency Management Plan: The
Jefferson County - City of Port Townsend
Emergency Management Plan was adopted by
resolution which replaced the previous version of
this plan.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following
comments were made: A citizen noted that hefeels it is time for the State to reevaluate charging
for parking at State Parks since this is something
that local dollars should not have to be used to
support; a metropolitan park district would be thewrong path for the County to take and would add
taxes and another layer of government that we
don't need; the Board needs to distinguish
between required and discretionary spending inthe County budget; concern about the State
Department of Ecology regulating wells; geologists
are saying that there appears to be a dangerous
buildup in the Juan de Fuca plate which may result
in a massive earthquake in the future and the
Prosecuting Attorney’s Offices should be
abandoned immediately; Plans should be made to
retire the Courthouse and build a new building for
County offices; comments were made about the
State Department of Ecology changes to WAC
173.517 and the fact that State agencies have no
authority to make these rule changes;
and a candidate's F1 should refer to the correctname of any business that they operate.
