HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-12-05Board’s Official Business Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting December 12, 2005 COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR’S BRIEFING: John Fischbach reported that a reception was held in Port Ludlow to introduce the new Port Ludlow Planner, Dr. Louise Dybel, to the residents. She will be starting her position in May 2006. In response to the County’s request for a contempt citation against Security Services Northwest, the Superior Court Judge found that SSNW abused the restraining order he had issued and he imposed a $20,000 cash bond for each employee that needs to shoot at the facility to qualify. The Hearing Examiner decision on the SSNW project is due December 19th. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comments were made: The County is going to continue to have budget problems and the Board needs to consider cutting 15 to 20 employees; the County has the same number of road miles as it did in 1990 so why does Public Works need more employees now than worked there in 1990?; the Board needs to have contingency plans for the budget and they need to put a cap on the number of employees hired; the County needs to do a study on where cutbacks can be made in supervisory staff; The County has two great managers in the County Administrator and the Central Services Director but the Board needs to provide them guidance; the Courthouse needs to be repaired; the Board has a number of tough budget decisions and tax increases are not the answer; a suggestion was made that the Board members look at cutting their own salaries; there needs to be contingency funds available because unplanned things happen; now is the time to get rid of junk vehicles because the price for scrap metal is high; people need to be given the information on the process for getting rid of junk vehicles; and what is happening with PILT (payment in lieu of taxes) funding at the federal level because it will have an impact on the County budget if it isn't approved by Congress? (The County Administrator explained that the loss of PILT funding (approximately $130,000) would not have as great an impact on the County as the loss of the Secure Rural Schools Funding. If the Secure Rural Schools Funding is not re- authorized, the General Fund would lose $120,000 and the Road Fund would lose $1.3 million as well as the ability to use these funds to match other grant funding.)
