Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting August 28, 2007
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following
comments were made by citizens. Several
people expressed concerns about the increase
in their property valuation determinations by
the Assessor’s Office and asked that the
Commissioners extend the appeal deadline to
the Board of Equalization an additional thirty
days; several people expressed their concerns
about the proposed Clean Water District fees
and what they will be used for; a petition was
submitted opposing the re-zone application
submitted by Security Services Northwest; new
businesses could provide needed revenue so
that the County wouldn’t have to rely on
property taxes; and a request that the Board
support the City of Port Townsend’s draft letter
requesting that an Environmental Impact
Statement be done for Indian Island.
CONSENT AGENDA: The resolution regarding
the continuity of government was deleted from
the Consent Agenda and the following items
were approved.
RESOLUTION: Naming two private roads;
Briarwood Lane (Primary Road) and Dragonfly
Place (Secondary Road)

Repair on Upper Hoh Road with State DOT; 2)

RESPONSE LETTER: To Request for Wage
Increase For Jefferson County Public Health
Nurses to Wendy White, ARNP
COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING SESSION: The
County Administrator updated the Board on the
following items:
•The Board discussed a draft letter
submitted by the City of Port Townsend
requesting that Naval Magazine Indian
Island prepare an Environmental Impact
Statement that addresses ongoing and
planned future actions that intensify the
use of the facility.
•A joint BOCC workshop with Clallam
County is scheduled for September 24 at
1:30 p.m. at the Clallam County
Courthouse.
•The State DOE awarded a $50,000 grant
to the County for the archeological
services on the Beckett Point Sewer
System project.
CLEAN WATER DISTRICT PROPOSAL: In
order for a Clean Water District fee to be added
to the tax statements that are sent out in
February, 2008, the proposed fee must go
through the public hearing process and be
approved by the Board by September 24. Public
Health staff will research the Board’s preferred
option for the fee which is $18 per parcel per
year and includes exemptions for low-income
seniors, the disabled, and timberland.
URBAN GROWTH AREA BOUNDARY: The
Board directed staff to re-examine the Port
Hadlock/Irondale UGA boundary to include only
those areas that will be provided with sewers by
2024 as outlined in the Sewer Plan.
NON-ACCRUED VACATION DAYS FOR
EXEMPT EMPLOYEES: After discussing the
Elected Official’s recommendation to provide up
to three non-accrued vacation days for exempt
employees depending on length of service, the
Board directed that staff put together a resolution
authorizing the request.
