Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting October 9, 2007
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following
comments were made by citizens. Concerns
were expressed by a citizen about the
process for Planning Commission’s vote on
the Security Services Northwest (SSNW)
Comprehensive Plan Amendment to re-zone
property in Discovery Bay; the County
Commissioners were elected because they
said they were going to improve the
economy, but they haven’t encouraged more
businesses to locate in the County and now
the housing market has dropped so there will
be less revenue in the future from new
construction and house sales; and the
Commissioners’ Office should scan
documents requested in public records
requests and have them available by
computer so that less money is spent on
copies and paper.

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT: Susan Harrell
explained that she works with employers to
help them find viable positions in their
operations for developmentally disabled (DD)
employees. Government needs to set an
example for other businesses. The County
has approximately 300 employees and the
ultimate goal is that 9 or 10 of the employees
hired by the County in the next few years will
be developmentally disabled. She will be
meeting with Public Health, the Department of
Community Development and Information
Services to see about placing DD employees
in these departments.
APPOINTMENT TO PARKS ADVISORY
BOARD: After the Board interviewed Lizanne
Coker, they appointed her to a two year term
on the Parks Advisory Board representing
Commissioner District #1. There is one
vacant position remaining on the Parks
Advisory Board for that district.
