HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-20-07Board’s Official Business Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting November 20, 2007 PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comments were made by citizens. Search and Rescue needs new vehicles because the old ones are unsafe and not dependable; the Board has to make hard decisions about cuts to balance the budget which may include a reduction in force; the Public Defender’s contract needs to be renewed before December 31; the Commissioners have not kept campaign promises that they made especially regarding government spending; houses aren’t selling and people aren’t building which decreases revenues; the Board needs to cut programs and implement a hiring freeze; the Clean Water District Task Force needs to review all funding options; the Planning Commission needs strong legal support in order to address Critical Areas Ordinance issues; and concerns were expres- sed about an e-mail from outside Counsel regarding the process for the Second Settlement Agreement with the WEC. Uncas Road, Port Townsend; William and Lea Gallant PAYMENT OF VOUCHERS/WARRANTS: Dated November 13, 2007 Totaling $811,277.04 PAYMENT OF PAYROLL WARRANTS: Dated November 5, 2007 Totaling $752,201.95 and A/P Warrants Done by Payroll Dated November 6, 2007 Totaling $577,865.30 and November 14, 2007 Totaling $60,068.22 TASK FORCE CREATION: Clean Water District Financing Task Force (CWDFTF) ADVISORY BOARD RESIGNATION: Kevin Earl, Resort at Port Ludlow from the Jefferson County Lodging Tax Advisory Council ADVISORY BOARD APPOINTMENT: Debi Bainbridge, Inn at Port Hadlock to the Jefferson County Lodging Tax Advisory Council (Expires July 23, 2010) CONSERVATION FUTURES ADVISORY BOARD PRESENTATION: The Advisory Board Chair reviewed the process the Committee uses to award funding to applicants. He briefed the Commissioners on two questions they want to add to the application form. Since 2003, they have received fifteen applications and made nine awards. 2008 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR JEFFERSON COUNTY: Senator Jim Hargrove, Representative Lynn Kessler, and Representative Kevin Van De Wege met with the Board to discuss State legislative priorities for 2008 which include: preserving banked capacity; the overturn of I-747; funding for the Port Hadlock Sewer System; reimbursement of Public Infrastructure Funds revenue from the State DOR; proposed legislation for shellfish zone protection; clean water districts and sewer systems; proposed Dosewallips State Park sewer system; affordable housing; and authorization to collect a severance tax for mineral extraction activities.
