HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-23-09Board’s Official Business Highlights from Today’s Commissioner Meeting March 23, 2009 PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comments were made by citizens: a citizen said that a private firm submitted a proposal for providing security services to Jefferson Transit and was advised that the proposal was awarded to the Sheriff’s Office and he feels this is a conflict of interest; several people stated that the competition between a private contractor and a public agency should be seriously looked at because it doesn't serve the public's interest; many of the grants to County's will be decimated by the State trying to balance the budget and the County is not going to be able to sustain the cost of the Health Department, Public Works and other County departments; protecting the environment is being shoved down the throats of County property owners; another citizen asked what the County is doing to address the economy? everything done here is to restrict things - where’s the plan to build?; a former Planning Commission member commented on the PC's direction from the Board regarding the SMP planning process which doesn't have to be done until 2011; another citizen stated that there have been comments the last 2 weeks that the people of Port Townsend are gays, hippies, etc. and there seems to be a war on the people of Port Townsend which he feels polarizes people and is inappropriate and then noted that the Commissioners do not do economic development or economic planning because that is the job of the Port of Port Townsend; significant work is needed on the SMP because there are great flaws in the document and the work needs to be budgeted in the coming year; the people of Port Townsend seem to be telling the people of the County how to live their lives when they support forcing regulations on other people when they are not subject to the same regulations.
