HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-09Board’s Official Business Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting April 14, 2009 PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comments were made by citizens: several people commented on the Planning Commission’s recommendation on the suggested amendment to the Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) that addresses the Hearings Board compliance order; a person cautioned the Board that the Shoreline Master Program (SMP) will lead to legal battles the same way the CAO did; a citizen stated that he thinks the County needs to stop enacting more regulations that affect property owners; several people commented that more agricultural lands in the County need to be used to grow food for local communities and in order to do this the County will have to ease regulations; a person spoke out against the scope of influence that the environmental organization Futurewise has in the County; a citizen suggested that the Board and Planning Commission need to review the decision on the Court case Capra vs Simms before more work is done on the final SMP; a person stated his opinion that as the economy continues to decline, the crime rate will increase and the County shouldn’t cut any Sheriff’s Deputy positions; a person stated that he thinks the ideas for saving money that County employees have submitted to the County Administrator should be available for the public on the County webpage; a person asked why the County doesn’t make planning for future economic development a top priority?; and a citizen in the tourism business presented the Board with a map of the Olympic Peninsula that he wants to make available to tourists when the Hood Canal Bridge is closed for repairs in May and June. CONSENT AGENDA: The Board approved all of the items on the Consent Agenda. RESOLUTION: 1) Hearing notice for 1st Quarter Supplemental Budget Extension - Appropriations; various County departments; Hearing scheduled for April 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Chambers AGREEMENTS: 1) Chimacum Creek Riparian Restoration Project with the Jefferson County Conservation District; 2) 2009 Community Services Grant Funding with the Jefferson County Conservation District; 3) Amendment No. 14 to the Consolidated Contract regarding public health services with State DOH; and, 4) Demolition and Clean up of 410 & 420 Appaloosa Drive in Brinnon with A & A Contracting, Inc. GRANT APPLICATION: COPS Grant funding for Jefferson County Sheriff from the US Department of Justice LETTER OF AGREEMENT: Grant funding for rural mobile mammography services with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Puget Sound DEED OF RIGHT TO USE LAND: For public recreation purposes with Washington State Recreation and Conservation WAIVER OF TIPPING FEE: For annual all volunteer Earth Day cleanup LETTER OF SUPPORT: Land Transfer with Olympic National Park and Hoh Indian Tribe to Senator Maria Cantwell, Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Norm Dicks ADVISORY BOARD APPOINTMENTS: 1) Ryan Hunter to a 4-year term on the Conservation Futures Citizen Oversight Committee that expires April 13, 2013 and 2) Crystal Hudson to an unexpired term on the Lodging Tax Advisory Council (LTAC) that expires July 23, 2010 PAYMENT OF JEFFERSON COUNTY VOUCHERS/WARRANTS: Dated April 7, 2009 totaling $9,962.65 PAYMENT OF JEFFERSON COUNTY PAYROLL WARRANTS: Dated April 3, 2009 totaling $757,769.39 and A/P warrants done by Payroll dated April 6, 2009 totaling $648,029.91 CRITICAL AREAS ORDINANCE COMPLIANCE WITH GMA: The Board agreed to hold a public hearing on the Planning Commission’s recommendation regarding the amendments to the Critical Areas Ordinance and the Chair signed the hearing notice. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 27 at 10:45 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers. PRESENTATION ON WWRC BUDGET: A Board Member of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition asked the Board to encourage State Legislators to pass the House of Representatives $80 million budget because a portion of this funding will go to several Jefferson County conservation projects.
