Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting December 8, 2009
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following comments
were made: a citizen expressed his appreciation for the
work being done on the budget and the Shoreline
Master Program (SMP); two citizens commented that the
adoption of the proposed SMP will result in many
lawsuits against the County; a citizen commented on the
airport rezone proposed by the Port of Port Townsend;
four citizens expressed concern about any possible
discontinuation of the “Public Comment Period” and one
citizen expressed support of it being discontinued; a
citizen stated there is a need for economic development
planning; a citizen feels the County is not doing the Yarr
family justice with regard to the funding being provided
for the defense in the Pierce trial, or for the rebuilding of
the home which burned; a citizen stated that he feels
more needs to be done to inform residents about what
public services are available.
CONSENT AGENDA: The Board approved all the items
on the Consent Agenda as submitted.

COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING SESSION:
Commissioner Austin: Reported that he met with Kiwanis
Camp officials who stated that DNR will not conduct timber
harvests while the camp is operating.
Commissioner Johnson: Discussed the need for County
Park volunteers.
Commissioner Sullivan: Reported on the project
coordination efforts of the PRTPO and watershed planning
projects which are at risk of losing funding.
County Administrator Philip Morley stated that the “Public
Comment Period” is important and he would like to find
ways to broaden participation.
HEARING: After holding a hearing, the Board approved a
resolution re-establishing a six month moratorium on adult
businesses.
HEARING: After hearing public testimony on the 2010
Public Service Community Development Block Grant and
2009 Public Service Block Grant Closeout, the Board
approved the grant application and a resolution certifying
compliance for the grant.
SHORELINE MASTER PROGRAM (SMP) REVIEW: After
reviewing the SMP, the Board approved a resolution to
locally approve the SMP and supporting documents, and
directed staff to forward it to the State Department of
Ecology for final review, public comment and approval.
HEARING: After hearing public testimony on the proposed
airport rezone submitted by the Port of Port Townsend
#MLA09-0007, the Board agreed to continue the hearing
on Monday, December 14, 2009. The continued hearing
will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Commissioner’s
Chambers.
HEARING: After hearing public testimony on the 2010
Budget, the Board directed staff to prepare the final budget
documents for approval on Monday, December 14, 2009.
