Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting January 5, 2010
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
REORGANIZATION OF THE BOARD:
Commissioner David Sullivan was appointed
Chairman for 2010.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The following
comments were made: Four (4) citizens thanked
the Board for the “Town Hall Meetings” they will
be hosting for the public and one citizen thanked
the Board for the establishment of the
Department of Community Development
Advisory Board; a citizen commented on the
correspondence and asked for a response to his
letter regarding the rules of procedure for
“optional” public comment period at the Board’s
weekly meetings; a citizen believes more needs
to be done on economic development planning
in Jefferson County; three (3) citizens
commented on the City’s protest of the County’s
decision to approve the airport rezone
application submitted by the Port of Port
Townsend; a citizen stated that his name was
mis-spelled in the minutes of November 30,
2009 and that he finds the “online packet” to be
inefficient and practically unusable; a citizen
suggested that the Civil Deputy Prosecuting
Attorney attend the County Commissioner
meetings and that the Board hold more
teleconferences to cutback on travel.
CONSENT AGENDA: The Board deleted and
later approved an agreement for the Dosewallips
Floodplan Acquisition Project II with Hadlock
Bushhog and Backhoe Services. The following
items were approved as submitted.
(3) Call For Bids: 1) 2010/2011 Pavement
Marking; 2) 2010 Supply of Liquid Asphalt; and
3) 2010/2011 Supply of Aggregate for
Bituminous Surface; Bids will be Accepted Until
9:55 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010 and
Opened and Read Publicly Shortly Thereafter in
the Commissioner’s Chambers
10 AGREEMENTS: 1) Parent to Parent Program
with ARC of Jefferson and Kitsap Counties; 2)
Health Promotion and Disability Technical
Assistance Project with National Association of
County and City Officials; 3) Generator
Maintenance Located at Jefferson County
Corrections with Cummins Northwest, LLC; 4)
Dosewallips Road Slide Repair with Seton
Construction, Inc.; 5) Consulting Services for the
Rick Tollefson Trail Project with Triangle
Associates; 6) Mental Health and Chemical
Dependancy Treatment with Domestic
Violence/Sexual Assault Program; 7) Individual
Employment Services with Skookum Corporation;
8 & 9) 2010 Community Services Grant Funding
with Jefferson County Fair Association and
Olympic Community Action Programs (OlyCAP);
10) JeffCom Strategic Plan Facilitation and
Development with David Goldsmith
Advisory Board Appointment: Carla Meyer to
Serve a Three (3) Year Term on the Jefferson
County Developmental Disabilities Advisory
Board
Letter of Support to Granting Agency for the
Expansion of the Jefferson County Historical
Society Research Center
Payment of Vouchers/Warrants: Dated
December 21, 2009 Totaling $508,504.74
Payment of Payroll Warrants: Dated December
18, 2009 Totaling $91,267.69 and Totaling
$15,708.74
COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING SESSION: The
Commissioners gave updates and the County
Administrator reviewed changes to the Agenda
which should be more efficient.
PROCLAMATIONS: The Board approved the
following two (2) proclamations:
1) Designating January 2010 as School Board
Recognition Month for Port Townsend,
Chimacum, Quilcene, Brinnon,
Queets/Clearwater and Sequim School Districts
2) Recognizing, Honoring and Supporting the
National Guard and Reserve
HEARING: After taking public testimony, the
Board approved a Resolution Ordering the 2009
4 Quarter Supplemental Budgetth
Appropriations/Extension for Various County
Departments.
Lead for Various Boards and Committees for
2010: The Board authorized the County
Administrator to adjust various Board and
Committee Assignments for the Commissioners
in 2010.
