Highlights from Tuesday’s Commissioner Meeting September 7, 2010
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The followingcomments were made by citizens in attendanceat the meeting and reflect their personalopinions: • Seven people spoke against the PortTownsend Paper Corporation CogenerationBiomass Project and asked theCommissioners to slow the process down • A citizen commented on the possibleagreement with the City of Port Townsend inthe event of proposition No. 1 is passed inNovember• A citizen asked the Board to work with theCity of Port Townsend to maintain MemorialField• A citizen stated that today’s comments madeby the previous people regarding the PortTownsend Paper Corporations Biomassproject are an example of how the people ofJefferson County are not getting answers orresponses from the Board• A citizen reminded the Board that publiccomment period is optional as per a rulingby a Judge in a recent lawsuit againstJefferson County• A citizen urged the Board to continue PublicComment Period and that Port TownsendPaper Corporation provides jobs and thenew project could be a good thing

Payment of Payroll Warrants Dated August20, 2010 Totaling $90,768.27 and A/P WarrantsDated August 23, 2010 Totaling $16,547.91 COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING SESSION: The Board Approved a proclamation thatSeptember be recognized as National Drug andAlcohol Addiction Recovery Month in JeffersonCountyCommissioner Austin went to Tenino andlooked at sewer system; the Higher EducationCoordinating Council met and discussedbroadband changes and how it is a positiveattraction; 4-H is hiring teenagers to clean andplant our forest area; Quilcene School willreceive warning signs on Center Road and DOTwill provide flagging for free during theinstallation processCommissioner Johnson said there is aninvitation to a fundraiser breakfast for theWashington Wildlife Coalition in Seattle onSeptember 21 Commissioner Sullivan stated he went to anopen house at the City’s Mountain Viewfacilities; there is a BOH data steeringcommittee meeting this week; he will beattending PRTPO Legislative Outreach meetingon Friday; and the BOCC discussed a left handturn lane in Gardiner
PROPOSAL OPENING for the Jeffcom 911Simulcast Radio System Improvements Theproposals will be reviewed and arecommendation for contract negotiations willbe brought back to the Board at a later date.
UPDATE, DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLEAPPROVAL the Interlocal Agreement with theCity of Port Townsend for Proposition No. 1,has not been finalized. County AdministratorPhilip Morley hopes to have negotiations and anagreement ready to go before the Board nextweek
Letter of Support: The Board approved andsigned a letter of support for the Trust LandTransfer for the Dabob Bay Natural AreaPreserve/Natural Resource Conservation Area
