Highlights from Monday’s Commissioner Meeting October 19, 2010
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: The followingcomments were made by citizens in attendanceat the meeting and reflect their personalopinions: • A citizen commented on the EconomicDevelopment Plan and the unemploymentrate in Jefferson County and asked theBoard to make an environment forbusinesses to expand• A citizen commented on how muchdiscretion the Prosecuting Attorney has inprosecuting cases and would like an auditdone on that issue• A citizen stated that economic developmentcan be done by letting businesses expandrather than having new businesses open• A citizen commented on the economy andhow it will continue to decline and that theBoard needs to prepare to be self sufficientin case the dollar collapses • A citizen stated that he received a politicalflyer that contained misinformation • A citizen commented on a campaign signthat is bigger than 8 feet on Beaver ValleyRoad and would like to know why the rulesare not being enforced and why the signpolicies that are in place did not go througha public process• A citizen commented on last weeks publiccomment period regarding accusations ofthe Prosecuting Attorney hiding publicrecords and requested an investigation

Payment of Jefferson County Vouchers/Warrants: Dated October 11, 2010 Totaling$470,307.30 and Dated October 12, 2010Totaling $4,893.90 COMMISSIONERS BRIEFING SESSION: Commissioner Austin commented on how theTourism Coordinating Council does a good joband that LTAC has managed to do wellalthough the economy is down. He will beattending the Dosewallips Park Sewer Projectmeeting in Brinnon and the Jefferson CountyChamber meeting where the CountyAdministrator will be conducting a presentationon Proposition 1. He will be touring the ClallamCounty Detention Center this week and will betouring Kitsap County Detention Center in thenext couple of weeks. He attended a change ofcommand ceremony on Indian Island last week.Commissioner Johnson said last week heattended a meeting of the Port TownsendSchool of Fine Woodworking, also called theHistoric Preservation Technologies last week.The Timber Framers conference will be held atFort Worden this year and the Awardsceremony for the Hood Canal CoordinatingCouncil will be held on Nov. 5 at Fort Worden.The Environmental Protection Agency hasawarded state agencies about $12 million torestore the Puget SoundCommissioner Sullivan stated there is ameeting at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe onOct. 28th regarding renewable energy and hewill also be attending the Joint Growthmanagement Steering Committee meeting onthe same day; he will be attending an economicdevelopment strategy meeting with the City onThursday.

Letter of Support: The Board approved andsigned a letter of support for Geologic MappingEnhancement to Washington State Departmentof Natural Resources, Division of Geology andEarth Resources (DGER)
