STATE OF WASHINGTON
COUNTY OF JEFFERSON
RESOLUTION NO. 21-17
WHEREAS, planned Olympic Discovery Trail construction work adjacent to Old Gardiner Road,
Milepost 1.72 to Milepost 1.84, County Road No. C501109, Project No. 18019550, shall cause
interruption and unavoidable delays to traffic, and
WHEREAS, as potential hazard exists to the motoring public and the workers, and
WHEREAS, alternate routes are available to the motoring public, and
WHEREAS, notice of closure will be provided by signage at the site not less than 3 days prior to
closure, as required by law, and
WHEREAS, Chapter 47.48 R.C.W. authorizes closure of roads,
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that said Old Gardiner Road be closed between milepost 1.72 and
milepost 1.84 to all traffic, except authorized vehicles, for a period not to exceed four (4) weeks during
the 2017 construction season for Olympic Discovery Trail construction operations. Work will occur at
the intersection of Old Gardiner Road and Highway 101 and involves Olympic Discovery Trail

Subject: Temporary Road Closure on Old Gardiner Road, M.P. 1.72 to M.P. 1.84,
County Road No. C501109
Statement of Issue: Planned construction work for the Olympic Discovery Trail at the south
end of Old Gardiner Road adjacent to Highway 101 will be best served by a temporary road
closure at Old Gardiner Road.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's Et Con's: The Department of Public Works is constructing a
segment of the Olympic Discovery Trail along the water side of Old Gardiner Road and
Highway 101. Work will occur at the intersection of these two roads. Closure of Old Gardiner
Road will increase safety for the traveling public and workers, and allow the work to be
completed in a shorter time period.
Old Gardiner Road is a local access road that serves approximately 20 residences with an
average daily traffic count of 125. Closure will not significantly impact area circulation. A
detour route is available with a maximum length of approximately 2 miles. Closure will not
exceed 4 weeks.
Given the location, availability of alternate routes, and advance warning to the public and
motorists through signage, road closure is the best alternative.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: No significant fiscal impact.
Recommendation: The Board is requested to approve the road closure, and return a copy of
the resolution to Public Works for further processing.
