A short recognition ceremony and photo op will be held. Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's Et Con's: The County can only deliver essential services to the Public through its dedicated employees. Dennis Bates worked tirelessly for 39 years to make sure that the solid waste generated within Jefferson County was handled and disposed of without interruption. Dennis started as an operator at the landfill in 1978 and witnessed and participated in a lot of change over that time period. Through experience and a willingness to take on whatever task was handed to him, he became the supervisor responsible for running the Transfer Station. Never one to shy away from duty, he answered his phone on any day and at any time to solve problems that arose, more often than not on a Saturday when he was not scheduled to work. Dennis cared about the staff he worked with and supervised. He took pride in delivering uninterrupted service to the Public six days per week. The County was fortunate to have Dennis Bates here for so long working at this job and is losing a valuable employee and much of the institutional knowledge gained over 39 years of service. Dennis' provided several months of training to his replacement to make sure the Solid Waste Division had a smooth transition. Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: Public Works staff paid for a recognition plaque which will be presented to Mr. Bates by the Board of County Commissioners. Recommendation: Please take this opportunity to recognize a dedicated staff member, Dennis Bates, who recently retired after 39 years of service.
