Re: Marijuana Growing facility proposed at 9272 Flagler Rd., Nordland, WA
Case Number: ZON17-00003
Recently a public notice was posted at 9272 Flagler Rd., Nordland, WA stating an intention to
build and operate a 10,000 square foot marijuana growing and processing facility at the
address. This site, on rural residential Marrowstone Island, is one-half mile from the entrance
gate of Ft. Flagler State Park.
It is easy to look at a map of Marrowstone Island and see only a green blob at the end of
highway 116.That green blob represents one of the jewels of the Washington State Park
system. On a summer's day Ft. Flagler can host more than 2,000 individuals. Take a closer look
at a map of Ft. Flagler (http://parks.state.wa.us/DocumentCenter/HomeNiew/1870). As you
enter the park a group camp hosts family reunions and a scout camp provides outdoor
experiences for young people. The retreat center hosts church groups and music camps for
high school students.
As Marrowstone Island residents and park users, my husband and I have inspected the county
code regarding the siting of marijuana facilities. The code states that siting such facilities near
parks is not permitted. We agree and we believe that this restriction applies in the case of the
9272 Flagler Rd. proposal.
Please inform our county commissioners about our concerns and deny any permits for
marijuana facilities at this site.
