(Q.) Dear Sirs and Madams:
The purpose of this letter is to state opposition to the proposed 10,000 sq. ft. marijuana growing and processing
facility described in the Public Notice posted on the property located at Fort Flagler Road across from the Mumby
Road entrance.
My husband's family moved to Marrowstone Island in 1941 (Bernice Hall)and we purchased the property located at
241 Mumby Road in July of 1978. It is now our full-time residence and is only V4 mile from the proposed facility.
We understood from our family that there was a community development plan in place prior to 1978. As I recall
this development plan imposed certain restrictions on commercial development on the island. We understand that it
is zoned rural—residential. It is stunning that the island development plan does not contain code that would exclude
an industrial project of the magnitude of the proposed marijuana growing and processing complex. What's next for
our island, a small nerve gas test facility? It would be preferred over a marijuana growing and processing
operation.
The proposed 10,000 sq. ft.qacility would bring a major industrial project to our residential community. Potential
drawbacks that could result from the implementation of the proposal include:
• Visual pollution
• Noise pollution
• Light pollution
• Odor pollution
• Increased industrial truck traffic on Fort Flagler Road
• Creation of a clan of dopers and miscreants
• Loss of property values on Mumby Road parcels
We believe the situation is dire. We are concerned that our small community on Mumby Road will not be able to
manifest the legal resources to fight a high roller in the weed business. For this reason we are requesting Jefferson
County Department of Community Development to support the concerns of the Mumby Road community and deny
a permit for the proposed marijuana industrial complex.
