Subject: Accepting Donation from Peninsula Trails Coalition for Olympic
Discovery Trail Project- South Discovery Bay, Segment A construction

Statement of Issue:
The Peninsula Trails Coalition is donating $10,000 to Jefferson County to use for the
construction of the Olympic Discovery Trail Project- South Discovery Bay, Segment A.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's £t Con's:
Since 1988, the non-profit Peninsula Trails Coalition (PTC) has been promoting the
construction, maintenance and use of the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) as a nationally
significant non -motorized, multi -use trail from Port Townsend to La Push. The project is being
funded by the State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) through its Recreational
Resource Grant (RRG) program and its Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account (ALEA). RCO has
funded many of the other Trail segments in Jefferson and Clallam counties along with Federal
Transportation Enhancement funds. This trail segment is part of the North Olympic Salmon
Coalition's (NOSC) Discovery Bay Restoration effort. PTC was instrumental in helping secure
grants and with this donation will have contributed more than $55,000 towards the project.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
Accepting this $10,000 donation brings no negative fiscal impact. Accepting this donation
benefits Jefferson County by offsetting the funds required from County sources for the
project.
Recommendation:
Accept the $10,000 donation and recognize the significant contribution the Peninsula Trails
Coalition partnership continues to represent in the common goal of promoting the
completion, maintenance and use of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
