Minutes
March 11, 2008
Members attending: Debi Bainbridge, Dan Youra, Joy Baisch, Kathy Sharp,
Anna Matsche.
Excused members: Frances Rawski and Bob Huelsdonk
Staff/Contractors: Kitti DeLong, Diane Schostak
Others attending were: John Austin, Bill Roney, John Snyder, Miriam Villiard.
Dan Youra called meting to order.
Members requested Kitti deLong read Petition to Remove Chairperson:
We, the undersigned, do affirm and attest a vote of no -confidence in Dan Youra
due to the appearance of unethical behavior and the arbitrary pursuance of his
own interests during the course of business in his position as Chairperson for
Jefferson County Tourism Coordinating Council and we do demand his
resignation as Chairperson.
Debi made motion to accept petition to remove Dan Youra from position as Chair
and to also remove him from the TCC. Joy seconded. Motion passed by four
members present and one proxy from Frances Rawski.
Joy nominated Debi Bainbridge as Chair. Kathy seconded. Debi accepted. There
were no other nominations. Debi asked Kathy to lead the meeting since she
needed to refrain from talking. Kathy agreed.
Kathy asked Diane to describe for the record the actions that led to the petition
for removal of Mr. Youra. Diane reported to the group on Dan Youra's
presentation at the Tourism Commission meeting, describing his comments that
he had purchased the name "Olympic Peninsula Tourism Commission" and let
them know that if they intended to use that name they would need to make
arrangements to either purchase or lease the name from him as he now "owned
the name". When asked when he purchased the name, he stated, "about a
month and a half ago". He challenged the group to type the name into their
browser and they might be surprised where it would go. Others who were present
were Bill Roney, Debi Bainbridge, Kitti deLong and John Snyder. Mr. Snyder said
"that is not what he meant".
Minutes — Correction
John Austin changed January 19 to January 31. Joy moved to accept minutes
with corrections. Anna seconded. Passed.
County Commissioner's Update — John Austin
BOCC approved close to the final version of the Critical Areas Ordinance.
Monday, BOCC will sign a contract to find a temporary Administrator.
Frank Gifford is the Interim Temporary Administrator.
Financials
Diane requested a formula at the bottom of the financials to show actual and
projected amounts.
Travel Planner Insert
Copy in packet is before changes, which all went directly to Hattie.
Sequim, PA and Joyce will be eliminated.
Rain Forest Counrty businesses were added for this year.
Gateway Visitor's Center will pay for the first printing of the insert.
Spring Marketing Campaign Update
Banner Art • First one is finished.
Diane sent out an email entitled "Spring Getaway Specials" asking for
participation in specials, getaway drawings and on -air giveaways for radio.
Specials will be on co-op website. Website pages to follow five senses with
events and activities, there will be a drawing on website to capture data from
viewers and we will mail travel information to those signing up.
ACTION: Giveaways on radio get plugged through out day. Deadline for
placing those is looming. Encourage lodgings to get drawing items
together.
Kitsap Sun Electronic Newsletter
Deborah Black will do first two articles. Waterfall Trail is already being
covered.
ACTION: Shrimp Fest will be included in May 2nd copy deadline. Joy will
contribute.
ACTION: Diane will determine who will write the other articles via email.
By Laws — John Austin
John recommends that we each look through the By Laws and read Article III.
ACTION: Kitti will call Linda Tudor and tell her of change to By Laws.
Diane suggested that minutes should show who attended, who was excused,
and who was missing.
Discussion about what is criteria to belong on TCC and how appointments are
linked to the chambers. John Austin felt that there needs to be a connection to
the chambers for reporting and communication.
New Member
Debi nominated Bill Roney for the Joint Representative for Port Ludlow to fill
the vacated seat.
ACTION: Bill will write a letter of interest to the TCC for the position.
Bill will be the Port Ludlow representative to the Tourism Commission, with
Kathy Sharp serving as alternate.
TCC affirms Bill Roney's and Debi Bainbridge's positions by unanimous vote.

John Snyder introduced himself and announced he is the newly appointed
Executive Director of Olympic Peninsula Travelers Association (OPTA).
OPTA represents almost 1000 businesses on the Olympic Peninsula.
French Tour Operators - Diane
French Tour Operators will visit Peninsula first week of April and will stay two
nights of six day trip on Peninsula.
Gov. Gregoire will essentially triple tourism budget by setting up legislation for
increased state funding and private sector matching funds.
A familiarization tour of the east and west side of the peninsula is in the works
for the Seattle Hotel Concierge Association, with east side of Peninsula on first
day and west side on second day.
Next Meeting set for April 8 at Port Ludlow
Meeting ended at 12:40 pm.
