County Commissioner’s Update – John Austin
The BOCC approved the appointment of Anna Matsche and Bill Roney to the
TCC.
The BOCC passed the Critical Areas Ordinance, which will protect critical areas
and still allow development.
The Master Plan Resort (MPR) for Port Ludlow doesn’t automatically include “no
shooting” areas.
Financials
Debi will make adjustments to how the budget information is presented to make it
easier to read. Kathie moved to accept the financials with changes by Debi. Anna
seconded. Passed.
Travel Planner
ACTION: Kitti will keep a file on changes for the next printing.
ACTION: Is Pleasant Harbor RV Park still open? Kitti will check.
John suggested that Seal Rock Campground and others be listed as seasonal.
Falls View doesn’t open until late May. Rainbow Campground isn’t open all year.
It was decided to put an asterisk after the names of seasonal campgrounds and
at the bottom of the page, state that the asterisk means seasonal.
Debi will give Susan Grantham a call to talk about how the inserts will be utilized.
Bill has been placing 10 Travel Planners and 10 Jeff Co Guides (yellow and
bright) in an outside box. The brochure that has been taken most often is the one
with the bright colors. Kathie stated that studies show that smaller sizes work
better.
Spring Market Campaign – Diane
Diane is delighted with how well the campaign is going. In the King 5 Email Blast,
760 people have signed up for the Getaway. People were clicking on the left
(divided up by senses). The correlation was really good between the map and
events. Revamped the list for next time and used 13 categories on the list and
made web pages that map each activity.
We are not getting a lot of phone calls from newspaper ads and so it appears
that people are going to the web sites. Debbie Black’s email with web address is
attached to the meeting packet.
Kitsap Sun made a mistake in the first week’s ad. Banner read “Fall” rather than
“Spring” so the Kitsap Sun gave us an additional 5,000 names.
Are doing a broader distribution of Press Releases.
Use of OPTC Logo
.
Diane suggested that we should share the leads from the ads where we used the
OPTC logo.
ACTION: Debi will ask to have a subcommittee draft language re: defining
the use of the logo at the Tourism Commission meeting.
There are two different “give away’s” and a website drawing. Mary in Diane’s
office will be working on articles.
Tourism Commission Update – Diane
1. The challenge with Mr. Youra – OPTC will send him a letter stating that
OPTC has proprietary use of the OPTC name.
2. The Tourism Commission discussed the limited winter use of the
Hurricane Ridge Road, that more winter use would result from having the
road open more winter days, and decided to have the Park send a request
to the Forest Service to that end. Also discussed the Dosewallips Road
and the need to open that.
3. Pat McCauley’s attorney will take on the Hurricane Ridge Road and the
Dosewallips Road pro bono. The Dose is the only ADA accessible
campground in the high park.
Joy stated that we need a letter from BOCC requesting East Jefferson County
access to National Park be open year around.
ACTION: Diane will write a letter to the Park Service and then send to
partners to use as a template.
John stated this is “Disability Month.”
The State has a new marketing plan. There is a follow up meeting in Port
Angeles at the beginning of May to get final comments on the proposed
marketing plan. There is great cooperation between Seattle, State Tourism
Commission. Governor Gregoire is very supportive of Tourism.
Hotels Concierge – Diane
Visit to Hood Canal will take place on May 19. The visit to the west side will be on
May 29. The Tourism Commission will help with airfares for the floatplane. Joy
stated that the Quilcene/Brinnon Chamber of Commerce will contribute a couple
hundred dollars for dinner and the Boy Scouts will take care of lunch.
French Tour Operators Visit –Diane
That all went well.
Travel Channel – Diane
The Travel Channel visit will concentrate on Park lodges.
Also, there will be a visit by a Japanese TV group that is a direct result of the
Japan trip.
Kathie suggested doing a FAM tour next month to see the Taylor Process.
ACTION: Joy will put together a FAM tour of South Jefferson
County/Brinnon.
After we see how many people are going, then will check into
, tentatively on April 29
a bus. Those who are interested may stay for a no-host
lunch after the tour.
There will be no meeting in May. The next meeting will be June 10, 2008, at
the Inn at Port Hadlock for three hours
. We can distribute enough information
before the June meeting to be able to make decisions then. Items on the agenda
will be ’09 Budget Requests and the Fall Campaign.
There was a discussion about a possible Transit presentation re: getting here
from Seattle and back via Jefferson and Kitsap Transits.
Bridge Closure
DOT’s Theresa Gren will speak on that issue at Chamber meetings if you contact
her.
Meeting ended at 12:30 PM.
