Joy moved to accept the minutes, Larry seconded. Motion passed. Additions : None Commissioner’s Update – John Austin The $3.9 million Secure Rural Schools bill, tacked on to the Bailout bill, is in process. The County is performing its procedures to receive funds. Half of that amount goes to the state to distribute to schools, approx. half goes to county roads, with 15% going to other programs like adolescent kids training programs. John asked if the Inn at Port Hadlock had had any complaints about the intermittent generator noise from submarines at Indian Island. There have been complaints about the noise. Debi said she was not aware of any but would check. John would like to know about any complaints. Hotel-Motel Lodging Sales Tax – There has been a slight increase. John stated that this is one of the bright spots in the County. PT Hotel-Motel Lodging Sales Tax is down. Joy stated that the Washington State Ferry Survey results showed, given the option, that visitors would not take the Port Townsend-Edmonds Ferry, but would drive around. They would take Highway 3 or 101. Financials Discussion re: how to plan for unexpected opportunities at the end of the year after all funds have been committed. A tentative plan is to save about $1,500 until the very end of the year, and then, if there is no compelling opportunity, use the saved amount on an email blast. Joy moved to approve financials. Bill seconded. Motion passed. Tourism Commission Update – Diane The Europe Sales Mission went well. Washington State was top of the list for German travelers after New York, Los Vegas and Los Angeles. This was a higher caliber event than expected both in Germany and in France. Fall Marketing Campaign Update – Debbie Black Via conference call, Debbie Black reported on the fall Campaign (see attached written report). Debbie also described “Meals and Deals,” which we could not take part in last month because there wasn’t enough time to come up with all the give-away’s. Discussion about possibly taking part in this type of promotion in February. Debbie felt the KOMO 4 Weather Page promotion was not successful. Debbie’s recommendations for the next campaign are: 1. Continue with KING 5 doing the emails and adding text email contesting in coordination with TV commercials. We could devise something that fits our budget. 2. Continue streaming with pre-rolls and on-air outreach with KMPS. 3. Add additional advertisement with KING FM. 4. Add Seattle Dining special advertising packet. Can create test ad with link to our website for one month, which is then emailed, for $199. 5. Devise a coding system that will better help us track promotions. Joy suggested extending bike maps to include the area from Brinnon down to Mason County. ACTION ITEM: For the January 13, 2009, meeting, Bill Roney will have someone from the Bike Map group come to talk to the TCC about the Bike Map, distribution, and out it is funded. Next Meeting: January 13, 2009 at the Inn at Port Hadlock from 10:00 am to Noon. Meeting ended at 12:15 pm.
