TCC Meeting Minutes, 4-10-09
Members attending: Bill Roney, Joy Baisch, Frances Rawski, Anna Matsche,
Crystal Hudson. Miriam Villiard attended via conference call.

Changes to March Minutes (informational only)
: Add “Bill Roney chaired the
meeting.” Change on page three from Port Hadlock to Inn at Port Hadlock, on page two,
change name under Bike Map from Mike McKennah to David McCullough.
February Minutes:
Anna moved to approve February Minutes. Crystal seconded.
Motion passed.
Financials – Kitti
Everything is on track. Anna moved to approve the Financials. Crystal seconded. Motion
passed unanimously.
Commissioner’s Update – John Austin
Sean McLain’s email was very good. Lynn Kessler has 24 sponsors signed on for “Opt-
Out.” It appears Jim Hargrove will be supporting Opt-Out. Now need to get the Governor
to sign off on that program. Nora Porter originally thought of that idea.
Lodging Matrix – Christina
We still have 10,000.
Chair & Vice Chair
Crystal made a motion for Joy to be Chair of the TCC. Anna seconded. Motion passed
unanimously. Joy made a motion for Bill to be Vice Chair. Anna seconded. Motion
passed unanimously.
Discussion about the request for UBI Numbers for lodgings – County Treasurer keeps
those records. It was decided that we will continue to practice asking for voluntary
disclosure of UBI Numbers and then get verification from the County Treasurer.
Uncas & Unincorporated Port Townsend
Discussion about how to get involvement and how to do outreach. Frances and Crystal
will make the first contact via a letter to invite lodgings to attend a TCC meeting so that
we can get their views. In this letter, requirements for involvement will be specified (need
a Washington State UBI Number). Crystal and Frances will report on this at the next
meeting.
Proposal to Charge for Travel Planner and Travel Planner Fulfillment Change were both
moved to next meeting.
Spring Marketing Campaign Update
Debbie Black submitted a written report, attached.
Southern Strategy – Christina Pivarnik
Christina, Diane, Joy and Meri Parker from Neah Bay were on the Committee. Christina
presented a tri-fold brochure. This brochure will be sent with East County Journal, and to
60,000 zip codes in Vancouver, including some in Portland, and will also be in the
Olympian. It will be easy to do a reprint if we decide to use it again.
Giveaway on back will inspire people to go to the website with Getaway and Kayak Trip.
We have a little bit of an overrun and are talking about doing something in Victoria with
the extra brochures, maybe a trade show.
Tourism Commission Update - Diane
Crystal and Diane went to Victoria to Annual General Meeting (AGA). Kelly has brought
a proposal to the Tourism Commission re: Chek TV Evening Magazine. There will be 10
different evening programs featuring various things in Victoria, with three programs
scheduled for the Olympic Peninsula. Their crew volunteered to come over beginning
May to film this segment. Lodgings are comping rooms, Tourism Commission is giving
$1,000 for meals. This will air in June during Bridge closure.
No Bridge, No Problem
Art work went out last week.
French Media FAM Tour
were last week. Next week, there will be eight German tour
planners plus escorts and drivers. Will only be doing Twilight on the Peninsula.
There will also be a writer and photographer here from Japan who will write on hiking on
the Bogachiel, High and Low Divide, Elwah and Quinault.
Culinary Tourism and Waterfall Trail
are about ready to launch.
PT-LTAC Update – Christina
New Coho Magazine is good for 12 months, is reaching out to partner with everyone they
can. Port Townsend partnered with Mainstreet on “Meet Me in Port Townsend,”
partnered with Diane on the back page. Has been dubbed as an “in-flight” magazine.
Life on the Other Side
– to include all of Jefferson County, has had art work made and
will have them available for everyone to use.
Christina presented a new logo that will be available for everyone to use, will be in
Norwester Magazine and Yachting Magazine.
Media-wise – Q13 had three segments on Port Townsend last night.
Kenmore Air will go to Port Ludlow and Port Hadlock. There are 14 lodgings that will
comp air fare if visitors stay there.
Sunset – Port Townsend will be featured with Food Scene in Port Townsend, includes
Nash Farms in Sequim.
Will be an article in July in VIA Magazine, which is the AAA magazine.
Ten Concierges from Seattle came in last week.
Christina presented new technology, Quick Response Coding (Spatter Response), which
Port Townsend is planning to use, and she would like to extend use into the county. Will
be able to list accommodations, restaurants on phone, click on listing and will get menu,
then phone number. Can use this with windows, also can almost use this as a walking
tour. Emergency Services will be able to use this. Port Townsend has partnered with
Intellicheck-Mobilisa to use this system, which is popular in Europe and Japan but is new
here.
Bridge Opening – Will be a huge splash on Seattle side.
ACTION ITEM
– Christina will send the announcement of the Bridge Opening event to
Kitti who will distribute to TCC members.
Next Venue for TCC meeting will be at Port Ludlow.

Business Expo – Crystal and Frances
The Business Expo is being led by Port Hadlock Chamber, booths are almost full, will be
on Thursday, May 7, from 2-6:00 pm.
