Commissioner’s Update – John Austin
It was remarkable for the Lodging Tax to do as well as it did in May, considering
the Bridge was closed. Bill stated that people who did the promotions and
advertising before and during the Bridge closure deserve kudos and that
collaboration was key to that success.
The Edmonds run was down 35% during the Bridge closure, which is important
information to see how much impact these communities on the Peninsula have.
Joy stated that their numbers tripled, which is what the DOT expected on the 101
loop.
Frances has identified ten lodgings in the County with Port Townsend addresses,
which were sent to Judy Morris who reported that all are reporting properly with
the exception of three the Judy has sent to the State for confirmation of whether
they are reporting properly.
John stated that an article in PDN about Jefferson County having to let a lot of
people go reflects the tight economy. Real dollars every year are decreasing.
Proposition 797 limits the overall income that counties can get from taxes to 1%
per year. Jefferson County is loosing about the ability to pay for non-mandated
services such as Parks, Recreation , Nurse-Family Partnership, Animal Services.
Memorial Field and North Beach are both owned and maintained by the County.
2010 Budget Packets
were sent by Erin in the Commissioner’s office and each
member should have a packet via email. Those full budget packets are due by
August 31, 2009.
Diane stated that Amanda Lovelady will take Jamie Hodgson’s place on the
LTAC committee.
ACTION ITEM: Diane will send Amanda’s contact info to each of us.
Budget Committee Meeting: Committee will meet at the Gateway Visitor’s
Center at 8:30 am on Thursday, August 20, 2009.
Difficulties with olympicpenisula.org – Bill
Bill has had problems accessing the website, and has a very slow response from
the people who were supposed to help him change is authorization to get on,
which took four days.
OPTC
Christina stated Port Townsend decided to go for a four-panel brochure, rack
card size, which will be super simple and less expensive than the travel planner.
She won’t do anything this year, will be printed next year. She would like TCC to
be a part of that.
