Ferry Promotion – Bill Roney
Bill suggested that we keep in mind the amount of income accumulating in the LTAC
fund so that we can consider contributing more to the ferry promotion if we do have
a little extra money.
Christina reported that the Port of Port Townsend gave $5,000 toward the
promotion and that they want to provide the banners throughout the county.
Christina has met with each of the three tribes who have challenged each other to
contribute to the ferry promotion. The current commitment is now up to about
$37,000.
Commissioner’s Update – John Austin
Discussion about Hotel-Motel Tax: Overnight stays are down and day numbers are
up.
DNR has agreed to do a trust land transfer for the property around Beausite Lake.
John is working on getting a better water system at Falls View Park and has been
discussing the problem with Dean Yoshina.
The County and Jefferson Equestrian Assoc. have been working on a partnership
and have agreed on an operating agreement for an Equestrian Events Center on 80
acres of County land. This will provide a great opportunity for additional tourism
and economic development as result.
PT-LTAC – Christina Pavarnik
There will be a nationwide campaign launch on Thursday, which Christina has been
working on for four to six weeks. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is
about to launch the equivalent of the American Idol competition, which begins
Thursday and includes 25 historic sites. Winner gets a good chuck of $1 Million of
grant funding, which has been put up by Federal Express. Our historic site is the
Customs House/Post Office. This will be “pitched” through social media from April
15 through May 12. Other sites include: the Schooner Adventuress, Ferry House at
Ebeys Landing; The Point-No-Point Light House; Arthur Foss Tugboat, and more.
She encouraged everyone to vote every day for the Customs House at
www.partnersinpreservation.com.
Port Townsend is doing a limited run of a lure brochure to put in the racks in Seattle
at the convention center and Pike Place Mark as part of their membership with the
Seattle CVB to promote Port Townsend as a conference center for small meetings
and groups. There are about 250-300 people coming in May for the statewide Main
Street conference.
Fort Worden can handle about 1,000 people (in double beds). And Port Townsend
can handle 320-330.
Marcia Massey will be in the area on April 22 and Governor Gregoire will also be in
Port Townsend on April 22 to meet with the 4 graders at Blue Heron who won the
th
ferry naming contest. Jefferson County Chamber is hosting a reception.
Pad Maps – Bill Roney
Bill passed out example copies of the new map and requested that we all put
necessary changes in writing. Bill reported that the cost of reproducing the map
would be: Printing and Sales Tax $5,970
Design 850
_________
Total $6,820
All but $320 is covered by TCC and Gateway VC, which will be paid by North Hood
Canal. We will be printing 25,000 copies now. Christina suggested printing a smaller
run because changes can be made on a more regular basis.
Bill asked if the format was appealing. Answer was yes. Members worked on finding
obvious changes, and then took home the maps for further checking.
Diane joined the meeting at 11:15 am via conference phone.
Copyright issue: Bill suggested having a statement from TCC to Dan Youra that we
have the right to use this map and if there are any changes to be made, we go to Dan
Youra first to get bids on design change. We can use any printer we choose,
however, Dan’s quote for printing presently is right in the ballpark. Discussion about
whether we legally have to put the design work out to bid. It was determined that
we don’t have to.
OPTC – Diane
Washington State Tourism was cut by $500,000 in income. Diane was not sure if
that is a deduction from the $4 million budget, or from the $2 million proposed
budget. Washington State froze all travel in general. The State Tourism group was
signed up to do the Pow Wow in Orland before travel was frozen. Diane is trying to
put pressure on to convince everyone that the Pow Wow is a critical event for
Washington State Tourism.
Frances and Cheryl left at 11:50 am. Diane hung up at noon. Meeting ended at noon.
Joy and Bill continued to work on Pad Map changes until 12:30 pm.
