Additions
There were no additions.
Commissioner’s Update – John Austin
In last month’s minutes, John said that the County would not have to make any more
cuts. Now the Governor is cutting infrastructure budgets and may change that
picture. The County has struggled and found a way to meet its obligation owed to
the City. The Legislative Steering Committee is lobbying very hard to support the
Sewer Project in the County.
John went to the Tourism Summit last week and it was great. LTAC income for
October was $443,861, and that makes this year the second-best year for LTAC
income. General Sales Tax Receipts in October were $182,962. Joy stated that there
was a mistake at the Department of Revenue of approx. $10,400 to correct an error
that was made in 2004. John will check on this with Judy Morris. Discussion.
OPTC - Diane
Diane was heading for Spokane this afternoon for the Tourism Partners Alliance and
will do a Power Point presentation. She has all the tourism info, brochures, etc, on a
thumb drive. Vanessa Fuller from the Red Lion is going with her.
Christina and Diane went last week to Spokane for the WTA retreat. Came away
with a good idea of what they are doing and is working on messaging for the group.
Christina has done a good job putting together a Summit for the group.
OPTC voted last week to continue the rack card for Hurricane Ridge. OPTC is
wrapping up the budget for this year and will get the final invoices out in the next
week or so.
Diane has her LTAC meeting on Monday and they get 85% of what the County
collects. She is looking forward to working on the Spring and Fall Campaigns. The
Waterfall Trail Brochures have arrived.
John left at 9:30 am.
PT LTAC - Christina
Port Townsend won the bid to host the Washington City/County Management
Association Conference in August 2013. And Christina is now pitching to get the
Sister Cities International Conference for the fall of 2013. In addition, there are two
small conferences that want to come to Port Townsend so the Meetings and
Conferences Project is doing well.
Also are now deep into the Holiday Promotion with the Main Street Program. The
tag line is “Follow Me to PT, Come Home for the Holidays.” Ads are being placed
from Portland to the Islands and over to Victoria. A radio flight will run on KWRM.
Are offering a two night getaway for two with gift certificates for lunch and dinner.
People can enter on EnjoyPT.com. This will give us a good way to track where
people are coming from and see which advertising media worked well.
WTA – Diane
Was great to be with so many wonderful, smart people. By the end of two days, we
were all a solid team. It is almost unbelievable the work and the job we have to do.
The bottom line is that this must not fail. Are still looking for more membership.
WTA Summit will be April 5, 2012, at the Hilton at SeaTac. We want really great
representation from the Peninsula. Will be a reception the night before. We are also
putting together a series of fund raising events around the State. Discussion.
Goal Setting – Joy
Bill asked how do we market and who do we market to if we have fewer and fewer
events. Discussion about events including Music Festivals, Full Moon Festival being
done by Munn Brothers, who are doing an event in Brinnon. Joy stated that the idea
is to do one per month. That is a big draw from Seattle and south. Bill feels that each
member needs to pass along information about any events happening in their
territory so that information can be dispersed.
Fall Marketing Campaign – Debbie Black
Status Update 3
11.8.2011
Olympic Culinary Adventure
Former Galloping Gourmet Graham Kerr has completed two additional posts for
Edible Seattle’s Fresh Sheet blog, resulting in an official three-part “mini-series”
documenting his travels and discoveries along the Olympic Culinary Adventure
route in October en route to the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival. All three
posts are currently on the blog. http://www.edibleseattle.com/lyftenbloggie.htm
Graham has also penned an article for SeattleDining.com, which will appear later
this month.
We are advertising the Olympic Culinary Adventure in Seattle Dining’s November
special advertiser package, as well. This ad will be posted on Seattle Dining for
the entire month, and was included in an e-blast to 15,000+ Seattle Dining
subscribers that was distributed on 11/1.
Banner ads continue to rotate throughout Seattle Dining’s website, linking to the
Culinary Adventure web page hosted by Seattle Dining. Eight culinary adventure
destinations have posted a web banner on their own websites; five have not; and
three venues do not have websites.

To date, individuals have registered to participate in the Culinary Trivia
Contest, and one person has sent answers to trivia questions and photos to
Seattle Dining to be tallied and inventoried. This person will be the first to receive
an apron from the Olympic Peninsula Loop Culinary Tourism Association.
All destination venues on the Culinary Adventure route have received a supply of
the printed promotional piece, and the fliers were provided to organizers for
distribution at culinary events, including the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival,
the Cranberry Harvest Festival, the Mushroom Festival at Lake Quinault Lodge,
to the Everett Community College for distribution to participants in its November
Gusto! event, and EatLocalNow! for distribution at its Seattle fundraising dinner.
The Visitor Bureau has distributed the fliers to Visitor Centers and other
distribution points on the Peninsula. Our initial supply of 5000 fliers is now
exhausted.
Paid Advertising Schedule
Our on-air schedules on KWJJ 99.5 The Wolf in Portland, 88.5 KPLU, 98.1 KING
FM, KOMO AM/FM, KVI AM and STAR 101.5 FM are now complete. Our final
schedule on Star aired last week.
An ad highlighting the Olympic Culinary Adventure and offering $5 off the price of
e-
a crab dinner at the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival was distributed in an
blast
to Star 101.5 listeners on 10/6. My KOMO rep apologized that the same ad
was mistakenly left out of an e-blast to KOMO listeners, which was scheduled for
distribution on the same day. Payment will be refunded, and Fisher included a
“make good” ad at no charge in an e-blast to KVI AM listeners on 10/20. This ad
included a $5 discount on tickets to the Olympic Peninsula Wineries
Association’s Harvest Wine Tour happening over Veterans’ Day Weekend.
Our electronic ads in KOMO’s daily weather email ran during the weeks of 10/17
and 10/24. In addition, KOMO gave us a bonus ad in the weather email, which
started running on 10/10 and continued through 10/24.
Facebook ads
We have had three running over the past month, two that focus
on the Olympic Culinary Adventure, and one that focuses on general fall activity.
We are paying by click-thru’s and the ads have been visited 14 times in that
period. We still have budget left in this campaign line-item, and I will post more
ads to run in November, if desired.
Promotion
Several vendors have contributed attractive packages for the promotional
opportunities available through our radio partners.
KOMO Deal of the Day
Pat McCauley, marketing representative for Kenmore Air, put together 25
packages including round-trip airfare from Seattle to Port Angeles and lunch at
the Chestnut Cottage, for the KOMO Deal of the Day. The packages are being
offered for half-off their retail value. This deal was promoted by Connie

to help drive sales of the rest of the packages.

Goal Setting
Bill stated that our representatives need to make all of us more aware what the
activities are that are available in Jefferson County, and we need to emphasize
that we are Olympic National Park. We need to determine how to get the word
out that people can attend organized activities on one day and then can do
walking or biking, etc, on the next day or two. We need to have a good list of our
events available in each community.
Discussion about how to make that happen. Discussion about a tag line for
Jefferson County. It was determined that, “We are always open for fun!” was a
good, positive tag line that described us well. Joy stated that even though the
economy is down, the visitor hits on olympicpeninsula.org are up. Christina
stated that a woman’s phone number in Quilcene was printed in the Travel
Planner as a contact for the Rhody Festival, and that number was evidently
printed by mistake. The woman complained that she got 20-30 calls each month
and in May, the number of calls was “insane.” Christina changed the contact
number in the Travel Planner, but was pleased to find out the Travel Planner
worked so well.
At 10:50 am, Bill moved to adjourn, Nathan seconded. Next meeting will be on
January 10, 2012 at WSU Extension Center.
