Port Townsend Marketing – Christina
The WTA Summit is now behind us and it went very well. For the Travel and Words
Conference at Fort Worden at the end of the month, Debbie Wardrop, Barbara
Hanna, Mary Brelsford, and Christina will be representing OPTC. Many writers are
coming up Highway 101 and from different directions to attend. Also there is a
German Travel Guide writer who wants to update his Guide Book and he is coming
that same weekend.
Downtown construction continues to move forward. Power lines are buried where
they’re digging up the sidewalks. Will have a “Hard Hats and Carharts” party on
Gallery Walk , June 2, to celebrate the completion of the construction.

With the Facebook change to using the new Timeline, “Enjoy Port Townsend” has
used historic photos provided by JCHS to provide a timeline back to the city’s
founding in 1851. As a result, the page has gained a lot of new “likes”—nearly up to
2300!
Teresa stated that there will be 600 + people coming to Port Townsend for a three-
day Steampunk event, including an Absinthe tasting event, a vendor show during
which people will be bringing their wares to share, and there will also be a Zombie
vs Steampunk Triathalon. Discussion.
The Chamber is in negotiations with Jefferson Transit for them to take over the
present VIC location and move back to the Chamber’s previous location. Discussion.
Christina added that there is a movie coming to Port Townsend to be filmed in May
called, “You Can’t Win.” The film company is using historic homes and buildings in
PT, and also the Courthouse. Also a company from Texas is doing a PBS series on the
small towns across the country, featuring six of them, and the Port Townsend
segment will be filmed end of April.
The Victorian Festival was great.
Commissioners Update – John Austin
Thursday, the BOCC will have a meeting at Quilcene Community Center at 7:00 pm,
and sometimes other officials attend, as well. Will give a brief update on what is
happening and then will take questions. There will be six road shows this year
including Port Ludlow, Tri-Area, and Gardiner.
Yesterday’s workshop on LAIMIRDs by State is needed for sewer outside of UGAs.
This is looked at as a first step to finding out what we can to re: sewers. Yesterday,
BOCC hired Carl Smith as the director for the Department of Community
Development.
John hiked to Devil’s Lake on the east side of Mt. Walker, which is a real gem. Group
from Governors office is hiking there right now to see if it could be included in some
of the state promotions.
LTAC just sent out a request to find out when people are available for a meeting.
Some extra funds have been found thanks to Joy, and then there is some other
money that is over and above what we are saving for capital improvements.
Members will look at that to see how that can be distributed among organizations
that have already submitted requests.
John distributed charts of Hotel/Motel Lodging Tax and General Sales Tax Receipts.
It was observed that both charts showed a low level of income for the most recent
month shown, which is March, 2012.
Travel Writers Format – Joy
We need to use a format that Mary sent out with all writing we do. She sent out
instructions via email.
Wilderness Extension – Joy
Chuck made a motion that TCC oppose the Wilderness Extension Act. Carole
seconded. This matter was discussed at length. Bill questioned whether this is the
right thing to do. Motion passed with Bill opposing.
Discussion about other possible TCC Board Members who could serve from the
West End. On May 8, Carole will be gone.
The group decided that we will not meet at the West End in May, but will meet at
Allison’s place on Marrowstone Island. Meeting ended at 12:02 pm.
