HomeMy WebLinkAboutM011315 Tourism Coordinating Council Jefferson County Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of the Board of Directors January 13, 2015 (DRAFT) The January 13, 2015 meeting of the Tourism Coordinating Council (TCC) for CALL TO ORDER Jefferson County, was called to order at 10:10am by Chair Bill Roney, noting a quorum present. Voting Members present were: Bill Roney, Allison Willing, Debbie Wardrop, Joy Baisch, Bonnie Story, Marsha Massey Members Excused: Walter Kochansky and Mike Zimmerman TCC Friends in attendance: Kathleen Kler and Christina Pivarnik TCC Marketing Coordinator present: Steve Shively Bill welcomed new members: Bonnie Story, replacing Larry McKeehan as Quilcene & Brinnon area representative and Jefferson County BOCC Commissioner Kathleen Kler, succeeding Commissioner John Austin. On motion by Allison Willing and seconded by Debbie Wardrop, TCC unanimously APPROVAL OF approved the minutes from the meeting conducted on November 4, 2014.MINUTES Bill asked Steve to review the year-end 2014 financials with TCC. Steve discussed the year-end activity resulting in $85,881 in expenditures to a budget of $85,875. Year to date County Lodging Tax and Sales Tax receipts through Nov. 2014 were reviewed. Current trend (+8.8% above 4-year average) indicates that 2014 may end as high as 10% stronger than budget. APPROVAL OF TCC FINANCIALS On motion by Allison Willing, Seconded Joy Baisch the TCC financials through December 31, 2014 were accepted as received. Motion Carried. New Business Bill reviewed the reprint progress of the Activity Map. Production of updating and reproducing this popular tourism resource will proceed . The proposed TCC 2015 budget totaling $91,425 was presented by Bill and Steve along with approach for both line-item labels and utilization discussed with Board. COUNTY On motion by Joy Baisch, with second by Debbie Wardrop, the 2015 TCC budget COMMISSIONERS was unanimously approved. REPORT Bill welcomed Commissioner Kathleen Kler who briefed TCC on a number of on- going activities of interest to County tourism as she acknowledge her steep learning curve associated with her new position. TCC agreed that a future work session regarding history of County lodging tax revenues would be helpful for all. OPVB / OPTC Marsha reviewed the OPTC December meeting with TCC as well as the 2015 draft REPORT budget and current 2015 marketing plans for OPTC. Highlights included: Phase 2 branding considerations Overhaul OlympicPeninsula.org website VisitSeattle gathering in February combined attendance with Kitsap Peninsula Tourism. Tandem brief with Steve delivered to Blue Collar PR of Mason County. TCC MARKETING Steve reviewed his supplied report, reviewing initial analytic highlights from the COORDINATORS early returns of the TCC Fall/Winter ad buys. REPORTS Early highlights included the popular three property partnerships with: Elk Meadows Farm Stay, Chevy Chase Beach Cabins and the Port Ludlow Inn. Combined, these three December 2014 social media campaigns produced a consumer reach of over 66,500 AREA UPDATES Area Updates: a) Port Ludlow Debbie second package promotion titled -night length of stay. Also cooking are various Vertical market growth in LGBT, with partnerships being sought through their Seattle and Victoria Chamber memberships are on current marketing focus for Inn. b) Quilcene Museum Bonnie Asked all to save the date of Saturday Sept. 26 for the e Oyster Half-The museum Raise the Roof rd campaign as they seek to restore the historic 3 floor of the Worthington House. c) North Hood Canal Chamber Joy briefed TCC on post storm / winter floods and related road and river recovery issues. Much thanks expressed for County crews working hard to keep up with repairs. Rivers and Sound have lots of fish, resulting in lots of fishermen, and hikers still crossing Rocky Brooke into backcountry. Lots of great winter birding activity. NEXT MEETING e) Marrowstone Allison - Echoed LOTS of great birding. Plenty of Trumpeter Swans. This MLK Jr. Weekend Marrowstone Beach Cottages will be hosting a Crystal. Jewelry, and Readings & Tibetan Bowl Sound Healing Concert f) Port Townsend LTAC Christina reported on welcoming of USS John C. Stennis (Navy aircraft carrier) underway. Bringing upwards of 1,000 sailor per day into town. Visit PT travel articles will be featured in Tacoma and Olympia papers. th 11 Annual Strangebrew Fest this January and the annual Salmon Derby, over Pres Day weekend. romance packages, especially with Valentines on a Saturday. Anticipating the March 1 move of the PT Visitors Information Center closer to its former Water Street location Adjourn There being no further business, the TCC meeting was adjourned at 12:13 pm. Next meeting of TCC is scheduled for February 10, 2015 at 10AM
