Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of the Board of Directors
February 10, 2015 (DRAFT)
The February 10, 2015 meeting of the Tourism Coordinating Council (TCC) for CALL TO ORDER
Jefferson County, was called to order at 10:04am by Chair Bill Roney, noting a
quorum present.
Voting Members present were: Bill Roney, Allison Willing, Debbie Wardrop,
Joy Baisch, Bonnie Story, Marsha Massey, Walter Kochansky
Members Excused: Mike Zimmerman
TCC Friends in attendance: County Commissionaire Kathleen Kler, Teressa
Verraes, and Dan Toepper.
TCC Marketing Coordinator present: Steve Shively
Bill welcomed new members: Bonnie Story, replacing Larry McKeehan as Quilcene
& Brinnon area representative and Jefferson County BOCC Commissioner
Kathleen Kler, succeeding retired Commissioner John Austin.
On motion by Bonnie Story and seconded by Allison Willing, TCC unanimously APPROVAL OF
approved the minutes from the meeting conducted on January 13, 2015. MINUTES
Steve reviewed the year-to-date February 2015 financials with TCC. APPROVAL OF
TCC FINANCIALS
Year to date County Lodging Tax and Sales Tax receipts through Nov. 2014 were
reviewed. Current trend (+15.4% above 4-year average) bodes well for estimates
that 2014 may end as high as 10% above current figures than budgeted.
On motion by Allison Willing, Seconded Walter Kochansky the TCC financials
through December 31, 2014 were accepted as received. Motion Carried.
COUNTY
County Commissioner Kathleen Kler briefed TCC on a number of on-going activities

of interest to County tourism, including:
REPORT
Discussion with County Administrator Philip Morley on TCC contracts and
administration. Discussion tabled until New Business.
Anticipation of WTA Summit attendance in Olympia in two days. Kathleen noted
HB 1938 supporting state tourism assessment is one of many funding propositions
OPVB / OPTC
Marsha reviewed the OPTC February meeting and referenced the TCC annual

partner agreement and OPTC partners / OPVB branding loan agreement docs.
Update that Mason County has engaged the Blue Collar agency for marketing,
resulting in a removal of OPTC funding for 2015. Travel Planner is already printed
with all 13 partners. OPTC will seek proportional funding support from Mason for
production. Annual VIC Spring Mail Out is being offered again to OPTC partners.
Olympic NP is up 17% year-to-day. OPTC Marketing voted to co-opt with TCC and
OPVB to participate in sponsoring Julie Johnson on joint Rainier / Olympics NP sales
mission to UK. (TCC Action in New Business).

Steve reviewed his supplied report, reviewing ongoing social media analytics and

of working with OPVB to develop some universal hashtags for Olympic Peninsula

Area Updates:
AREA UPDATES
a) Port Ludlow Debbie Reported on the
newsletter with a 22,000 subscriber reach.
b) Quilcene Museum Bonnie Shared that the museum is prepping for
opening in April. Upcoming Linger Longer stage meeting will highlight updates for
next season.
c) North Hood Canal Chamber Joy shared news of the impressive $2.5M
floating, eco-friendly, dock installed at Pleasant Harbor by Statesman Group.
Looking forward to mid-March Bistro opening at Pleasant Harbor. Dosewallips
continue washouts from winter floods. Continued thanks expressed for County
crews working hard to keep up with repairs. Additional staff at VIC are welcome!

e) Marrowstone Allison Missed the Friends of Fort Flagler dance details.
f) JC Chamber Teresa shared Port Townsend news, including record
attendance at StrangeBrew Fest, with Fort Worden opening dorms for walk-ins.
Event transportation between Fort and PT still an issue. NW Maritime Center has 22
participants signed-up for Race to Alaska (R2AK). Look for March Martha Stewart
magazine with article about Far Reaches Farm visit. Marine Hertiage Bill continues
progress thanks to Congressman Killmer. Brown Farm behind Chimacum Cafe will
host Community Conversation tentative 2/24, 4:30, at Tri-Area Community Center.
Eaglemount Cider is moving to Palindrome. And yes Zoogs was recently on
eing prepped by current remodeling. Soft
opening in time for Rhody, grand opening will be in June.
g) Guests Dan reported that his involvement with PUD should be a
possible contact for TCC partners with potential EV charging stations and lodging
property energy efficient re-lamping through EEI (Energy Efficient Investment)
program

Bill lead TCC and LTAC members through updates from Jefferson County regarding
review of annual status of contracting with TCC, invoice methodology and payment
and TCC Marketing Coordinators contractual relationship.

After much discussion Bill was given both TCC and LTAC recommendations to:

a)Continue discussions with County Administrator towards immediate TCC
Marketing Coordinators contract resolution in order to enable TCC to fulfill
marketing per resolution.
b)Revisit TCC 501 (c)6 Non-Profit incorporation with goal of obtaining
necessary operational autonomy.
Kathleen will visit with Phillip on same.
UK Sales Mission
Co-opt with
Julie Johnson of Visit Rainier presented TCC an opportunity to be represented at
OPTC/OPVB
the upcoming Port of Seattle UK Sales Mission, promoting 2016 centennial of
Rainier and Olympic National Parks. By consensus the $666 support from budget
Advertising Opportunities was affirmed.

There being no further business, the TCC meeting was adjourned at 12:57 pm.
