Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of the Board of Directors
February 9, 2016 (DRAFT)
The February 9, 2016 meeting of the Tourism Coordinating Council (TCC) for
CALL TO ORDER
Jefferson County, was called to order at 10:02am by Chair Bill Roney, noting a
quorum present.
Voting Members present were: Bill Roney, Bud Schindler, Allison DuRoi, Joy
Baisch, Aaron Terada, Larry McKeehan
County Commissioner Kathleen Kler, Christina Pivarnik
TCC Marketing Coordinator present: Steve Shively
Members and friends Excused: Bonnie Story, Debbie Wardrop, Marsha Massey
Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed. By common consent, Chair Bill

conducted on January 12, 2016. Motion passed.
Steve reviewed the January 2016 financials with TCC. Noting that JeffCo. reports for

January had yet to be posted, but report should be available to go out with these

meeting minutes. Little activity in January. Business being conducted regarding
spring campaigns which will be reflected in upcoming budget activity. On
motion by Joy Baisch, seconded by Allison DuRoi Joy, the TCC financials for
January 2016 were accepted as received. Motion carried.
County Commissioner Kathleen Kler reported on various, on-going, tourism
COMISSIONERS
strategies being discussed at LTAC for long-range response to activities such as:

Restrooms at Gateway VIC, Electronic Vehicle charging stations, securing an
Authoritative Conversion Study, etc.
Increased LTAC funds have resulted in increased requests for funds, all reflected by
LTAChave thoughtful and strategic considerations for future
administration of Lodging Tax funds.
Commissioner Kler also updated TCC on ongoing Energy focus, School Bonds, and
supplemental LTAC funding request. Lots going on!
Chair Bill Roney updated TCC that the County contracted agreement with Steve

signed. Bill and Steve thanked Philip Morley for preparing necessary documents for

Bill led TCC Council through a brief review of the current Bylaw development he

County Attorney.
Bud Schindler offered many comments and suggestions. Christina suggested:

Bill updated TCC that both Activity Planner Map and Lodging Matrix map in PT
Leader publication are underway.
Steve updated TCC on initial progress with web additions of UTrip and Aurasma, as
well as marketing placement for pre-spring campaigns with Portland Monthly and a

designed to help enhance visitor engagement through social media platforms and

highlight lodging opportunities during the should-season.
Quilcene Museum Larry reports busy 2016 planning underway. 2015 welcomed

Funding for Worthington Park approached $1M with over $950K to date. Contract

to fix 3 floor and stabilize barn in process. Forestry Equipment exhibit and historic
recipe collection completion into for-sale cook book project both underway.
Emerald Towns Joy shared that it is currently quite. But with Shrimpfest just
around the corner that will quickly change.
Fort Flagler Aaron shared that Washington State Parks continues public meetings
on the Public-Private Partnerships on properties program. On official movement on
the 100 acres of Fort Flagler which has been identified as part of consideration for
Recreation Business Activity (RBA). De-winterization underway. Upgrading
underground utilities to guest accommodations. Processing groups requests for
summer. New construction & maintenance staffing hires. Camping advance
reservations expanded to April 1 October 31 season. Already noticing increased
business. Seasonal Beach Concessions will again be open prior to Memorial Day
weekend.
Marrowstone Allison noted that ownership of Beach Cottages on Marrowstone is
in transition. Currently lots of winter birding, windsurfers and kite surfers.
Port Townsend Christina shared news of various Valentines weekend activities,
including Key City Players and
traveling with Fort Worden to Go West in Alaska, meeting with 55 Receptive Tour
Operators seeking packaged lodging bookings. F

regarding film production incentives for WA State.
Fort Worden will be hosting March 6 Business Leader of year luncheon. All invited.
WTA Christina. Legislative session will not consider tourism assessment funding
bill this session. Hope is that $400K of state funds will be allocated
with WTA and: web, state call-center, travel guide production &
distribution, and Brand USA national membership. Encouragement needed with
Sen. Hargrove to support this bridge funding request.
There being no further business, the TCC meeting was adjourned at 12:00 pm,

Next meeting of TCC is scheduled for February 8, 2016 10AM at the
Inn at Port Ludlow.
