HomeMy WebLinkAboutM051016 Tourism Coordinating Council Jefferson County Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of the Coordinating Council May 10, 2016 (DRAFT) The May 10, 2016 meeting of the Tourism Coordinating Council (TCC) for Jefferson CALL TO ORDER County, was called to order at 10:03am by Chair Bill Roney, noting a quorum present. Voting Members present were: Bill Roney, Allison DuRoi, Joy Baisch, Aaron Terada, Cleone Telling, Shannon Meyers, Marsha Massey TCC friends present: County Commission Kathleen Kler, Christina Pivarnik, Teresa Verraes TCC Marketing Coordinator present: Steve Shively Members and friends Excused: Debbie Wardrop Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed. Corrected to add to Port APPROVAL OF MINUTES Foodfest, where moved by Joy Baishch, Second by Allison DuRoi, Chair Bill Roney, called for TCC vote approved minutes from the meeting conducted on April 12, 2016. Motion passed unanimously. Steve reviewed the April 2016 financials with TCC. Noting that JeffCo. reports for APPROVAL OF TCC March have been posted with a YTD 23.3% increase above the 4-year average for FINANCIALS the same period. Steve also walked TCC through JeffCo current general tax receipts are 6.8% above past 4-year performance average for same period. Bill and Steve briefed TCC that JeffCo revolving checking $4,500 account has been one of the major rationale for TCC pursuing 501(c)6 non-profit incorporation. Having this more nimble means of paying for marketing services is a great addition. On motion by Allison DuRoi, seconded by Joy Baisch, the TCC financials for April 2016 were accepted as received. Motion carried. County Commissioner Kathleen Kler shared updates on various activities related to COMISSIONERS tourism throughout the County. Including: REPORT Mediation related to Port Ludlow community developer and implications to Pleasant Harbor Planned Master Resort. Road repairs from Westend to Dosewallips. Future Duckabush bridge work in future counters Lake Crescent road work starting next year. Tax revenues are trending up, resulting in recent LTAC supplement. Wise and responsive planning is needed. Airbnb impact in City and County on housing inventory, impacts on homelessness and related wellness as it adds to issues facing mental health and wellness for a segment of our citizens. RCO grant for Memorial Stadium lights good collaboration between 13 stakeholders on project. CONTINUING Chair Bill Roney BUSINESS Olympic Peninsula Getaway Guide. ProsMuch improved tourism and travel voice throughout, with helpful call-outs and pleasant reinvestment of lodging matrix. Shannon feels piece is compelling and competitive. Cons Disappointing placem Cottages on Marrowstone (page 63 of 68). Preferred placement for both was expressed as closer to central lodging matrix (page 32 of 68). Bill suggested a fall meeting with Patrick and Scott of Leader discussing format, understanding rational and reason for their layout choice when deciding ad placements, and future. (Noting balance between a Leader produced publication vs. a tourism industry commissioned piece). Bill briefly updated TCC on progress of 501 (c)6 incorporation application filing and related draft of proposed Bylaws. Bill reported County Attorney recommended a . Consideration of performance of new revolving checking account is recommended prior to proceeding. Marsha briefed TCC on OPTC events, including: Visit Seattle Annual meeting, OPTC REPORT Dean Runyan report is out. JeffCo will receive details. Juan de Fuca Hwy 112 Elwa Dam interpretative kiosk is open, and impressive. Fall Tourism Summit, recommended continuation. Fort Worden planning on producing event. Dates TBD either Oct. 27-28 or Nov. 3-4. Inbound UK MegaFAM arriving this week. Part of a large Brand USA event. Pleased that Olympic Peninsula gets 2 of their 3 day Washington itinerary. Thanks to TCC for hosting lunch on Puget Sound Express tour. Next OPTC meeting is June 2 nd at Fort Worden. TCC MARKETING Steve reviewed his supplied activities report and highlighted the following: COORDINATORS Sinclair Digital spring campaign featuring STAR 101.5 radio and REPORTS SeattleRefined.com sponsored content. With Port Ludlow prize giveaway. -opt Wallpaper with Shrimpfest he & industry objectives, including: International & Overseas Growth, Leisure Brand Advertising, Seattle Street Scene National Parks Centennial campaign and implications for positively either Bishop Victorian, Port Townsend (June 15) or Nourish Sequim (June 16). AREA UPDATES Port Ludlow Shannon noted their August 25 Peninsula. Great Resort mentions through KOMO news campaign, Huffington Post story and 4 page spread in Edible Seattle on Chef Dan and the Farm dinners program. Quilcene Museum a 25% increase in seasonal volunteers. All hands will be called into service as 125 th Anniversary plans for the museum continue. Getting ready for plumbing and electrical in Worthington House, ead paint abatement and 3 rd story roof restoration phase. 1 st Sunday -the- ly, at 1PM, starting in May. Emerald Towns Joy shared that Shrimpfest has processed and prepped 700 pounds of shrimp for the big weekend. Working with Dream Catcher Balloons of Sequim for possible balloon rides at festival. Seal Rock campground opened for season last weekend and quickly filled to capacity. Rocky Brook is busy with visitors enjoying the summer-like temps. Tribal inputs on both Duckabush bridge and Pleasant Harbor master plans. Need to close last 1/8 mile above Elkhorn between bridge 6 and 10 to enable ADA camping accessibility. Fort Flagler Aaron shared that recreational clamming and seaweed harvests Washington State Parks Public-Private Partnerships on properties program - Recreation Business Activity (RBA) is now focused on lower campground, with possible conversion of underutilized sites to lamping Marrowstone Allison reported on Route 116 causeway construction being planned for next year. Teresa gave a favorable shout out to the Beach Cottages on Marrowstone as basecamp for Tri- Chamber Teresa shared the new Chamber logo and their many itineraries featured in their Getaway Guide ad. th Old School 4 of July at Fort Worden is processing st New Chamber services, including move to twice-monthly meetings (1 Monday rd Elks, 3 Monday at Fort). Broadband last mile, PT housing issues with Economic Develop, Chimacum Grow Kids and Jefferson Healthcare, Relocation tool all focused on community wellness. photo boat in front of Chamber will add interest to visitors. ADJORN There being no further business, the TCC meeting was adjourned at 12:00 pm, Next meeting of TCC is scheduled for June 14, 2016 10AM at the Inn at Port Ludlow.
