Minutes of the Meeting of the Coordinating Council
February 14, 2017 (DRAFT)
The February 14, 2017 meeting of the Tourism Coordinating Council (TCC) for CALL TO ORDER
Jefferson County, was called to order at 10:08am by Chair Bill Roney, noting a
quorum present.
Voting Members present were: Bill Roney, Marsha Massey, Debbie
Wardrop, Crystie Kisler
TCC friends present: County Commissioner Kathleen Kler, Christina Pivarnik
TCC Marketing Coordinator present: Steve Shively
Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed. Chair Bill Roney, called for approval

Steve reviewed the YTD January 2017 financials with TCC. Noting that JeffCo.

Debbie Wardrop moved for acceptance of January 2017 Financial report, seconded
by Bill Roney, Motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Kler briefed TCC on a variety of on-going items important to TCC.
Including: Federal travel restrictions and JeffCo. monitoring of best response within
possibilities of Federal funding repercussions. Careful steps being taken by

County.
JeffCo. Finance continues analysis of various budget funds, including lodging, with
bar having been risen for related projects supporting tourism infrastructure
investments. Efforts and awareness to mitigate visitors impacts with upcoming
Elwha River bridge, Lake Crescent road and Hwy 20 from airport to Port Townsend
Ferry terminal construction all being reviewed.
NEW BUSINESS
Chair Bill Roney reviewed a proposed letter of endorsement for National Parks with

TCC, recommending support. Motion to endorse TCCs submitting letter of National

Jefferson Co. Activity Map reprint Chair Bill Roney updated TCC on Activity Map
reprint process. Marsha reported that requested NPS maps only resulted in 60% of
requested supply. TCC supported continuing with reprinting of Activity Map at
45,000 units.
Chair Bill Roney, reported on on-going collaboration
with PT Leader and Christina Pivarnik, resulting in printing and insert of Jeff. Co.
lodging accommodation matrix and corresponding full-page TCC display ad in the

filed, and that after review, these articles have been accepted by WA. State and
Nonprofit Corporation has been closed.
WTA (Washington Tourism Alliance) legislative efforts and update was shared by
WTA REPORT
Christina Pivarnik. HB1123 / SB5251 bills for funding state-wide tourism have
moved out of committee and into their respective appropriations committees. This
is a long Legislative session with school funding on the table, so dont anticipate
early results.
Bipartisan bill highlights, strategy and successful meetings with all three District 24
Legislators were featured January 24 during the WTA Tourism Summit in Olympia.
Thanks to all who attended the full day of education, networking and advocacy,
vital to our state-wide efforts for sustainable tourism marketing.
OPTC Report Marsha shared highlights from recent OPTC planning retreat. Topics

InstaFAM spring campaign lead thanks to Coho Ferry team. Ongoing marketing in
Visit Washingtons e-News, Seattle Gay News, Red Wine, Cider & Chocolate
cooperative marketing and through the Annual VIC materials offered mailing.
February 2 will be first full OPTC meeting of 2017.

Port Ludlow: Debbie shared news of the Fireside Sunday (Wine)
School tasting sessions held the 4 th Sunday of each month. Chef Dans involvement
in numerous culinary events, including Whiskey & Chowder at the Foundry and
the student ProStart Chefs competition. Kaitlin Chester is boasting the Inns
Instagram presence with a Finnriver cider making experience. The Boat-In movie

AREA UPDATES
Gateway VIC Bill reports good January numbers at the Gateway. A parking lot
light standard is in disrepair and needing attention. Focus of this intake

survey will ask if visitors are lodging at: campground, friends, Vacation Rentals, B&B
or Motel / Hotel. Results should provide useful visitor travel data.
Tri-Area: Crystie noted that a NOP RC&D grant is being completed for assistance
with Chimacum heritage. Tri-Area Holiday Craft Fair is going forward. Finnriver is
introducing Saturday Brats along with a Groupon campaign experiment.
Fall Apple Festival will be October 14-15. Summer Cider Days
Westend: Kathleen reports having discussions with Kyle at Kalaloch regarding
emergency disaster preparedness planning.
Port Townsend Tourism Christina shared that the Port Townsend Winter
marketing campaign is wrapping up its successful 4-month run. Results are early,
but noticeably positive with record December lodging results.
Bus ads are still being seen in both Portland and Seattle. February 1 st starts their
2 nd photo contest campaign. Pad map and EnjoyPT brochure reprints underway.

11:51 am,
Next meeting of TCC is scheduled for March 14, 2017 10AM at the
Inn at Port Ludlow.
