This event is scheduled for Thursday, August 24th at the Brinnon Community Center (306144 US Highway 101, Brinnon, WA 98320) from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The Open House will feature information about upcoming restrictions on shellfish harvesting by the Washington Department of Health; the Central Hood Canal Pollution Identification and Correction Project to be conducted in the area from Brinnon south to the Jefferson/Mason County line; and about affordable loan and grant programs to aid in septic system repairs/replacements. High levels of bacteria have led the DOH to downgrade a shellfish harvest area off the mouth of the Duckabush River. The Dosewallips is also seeing declining water quality. Jefferson County Public Health is trying to address this problem and improve water quality by identifying and correcting pollution sources. Streams, shorelines and marine water will be monitored for bacteria and other pollutants that affect the health of people and the environment. Other major components of the project are a survey of septic systems in the area and providing information to local residents about ways to protect their property values as well as water quality. This project is funded in part by the Washington State Department of Ecology, along with the Jefferson County Clean Water District. For more information about the project or this open house, contact Anna Bachmann at (360) 379-4482 or abachmann@co.jefferson.wa.us. ### Always working for a safer and healthier community Tell Me More About the Central Hood Canal Project
